Venkatraman Ganesan (born 21 May 1985) is an Indian-born German cricketer, [1] who captains the Germany cricket team. [2]

Biography

He was named in Germany's squad for the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division Five tournament in South Africa. He has represented Tamil Nadu cricket team at age group levels and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) first division. He played an important role in Germany winning its last two games on 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division Five tournament and got Man of the match in both the games he played.

In May 2019, he was named in Germany's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their three-match series against Belgium. The matches were the first T20Is to be played by the German cricket team. [3] He made his T20I debut for Germany against Belgium on 11 May 2019. [4] Later the same month, he was named in Germany's squad for the Regional Finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier tournament in Guernsey. [5] [6] However, he was later ruled out of the tournament, after suffering a broken finger in the match against Italy. [7]

In September 2021, he was named as the captain of Germany's T20I squad for the Regional Final of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier tournament. [8] In January 2022, he was named captain of Germany's team for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A tournament in Oman. [9]

The 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier was a cricket tournament that formed part of qualification process for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. Twelve regional qualifiers were held by the International Cricket Council (ICC), with 62 teams competing during 2018 in five regions – Africa, Americas (2), Asia (2), East Asia Pacific (2) and Europe (3). The top 25 sides from these progressed to five Regional Finals in 2019, with seven teams then going on to compete in the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier, along with the six lowest ranked sides from the ICC T20I Championship.

The Germany cricket team toured Belgium in May 2019 to play three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. These were the first T20I fixtures to be played by either team, after the International Cricket Council announced that all matches played between Associate Members after 1 January 2019 would have the full T20I status. The series took place at the Royal Brussels Cricket Club in Waterloo, just south of Brussels, with Germany using the fixtures as part of their preparation for the European Regional Qualifying tournament for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier. Germany won te series 3-0.

The 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier was a cricket tournament that formed part of the qualification process for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. In May 2022, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed all the fixtures and venues for the three sub-regional Qualifiers.
