Verba Maximus (abbreviated VM) is the annual literary festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. It is one of the 4 fests conducted in the college, the other 3 being Atmos, Pearl and Arena. It is a national event, held usually in the last weeks of January or the first week of February. Regional rounds, preceding the main fest in Hyderabad, are generally conducted in major metropolitan cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam and feature events like Just a Minute (JAM), spell bee, and debate. Eight editions of the fest have been conducted over the years, the latest of which was held over 19–21 January 2018. The multi-lingual fest is organised by English Language Activities Society (ELAS), Journal Club and Hindi Tarang, which are student organisations at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. [3] The first edition of the fest took place in 2011, less than three years after the campus became fully operational. [4]
Verba Maximus 2016 (VM16) was held on 30th and 31 January 2016. [5] VM16 had events like Yin Yang (writing two sides of the same story), Words of a Feather (weaving a story around words that are announced one at a time), Picture Perspective (writing stories around a picture shown), apart from the regular events lit-quiz, group discussion and debate. [6] [7] Harimohan Paruvu, cricketeer and author, hosted a session at the fest. [8] Stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath performed at VM16, which features a stand-up show every year. [9] [10] [8]
Verba Maximus 2017 (VM17) was held from 4–6 February 2017 and featured authors Ashwin Sanghi and Indu Balachandran, popular Quoran Balaji Vishwanathan as well as a show by stand-up comedian Kenny Sebastian. [11] [12]
The fest has literary events like picture perspective (writing about a picture or image that is presented), a Hindi mock parliament called the "Youth Sabha", lit-quiz, debate, group discussion and Sherlocked, an investigative journalism event in which participants have to investigate a crime based on hints given to them. Some editions of the fest also had events like 'Pada Vinayasam', a Telugu crossword and writing event. [13] Recent editions of the fest, including Verba Maximus 2018, have newer events like Man from Amorium (write a story around a given skeletal plot), Symphonies of the Soul (write about a clip of music that is played) and Devil's Advocate (defend an unpopular opinion or ideology). Pearl is the annual national cultural fest of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. Initially introduced in 2009 as an intra-college festival, a year after the foundation of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, the fest grew into a national level college cultural fest with participation from more than 50 colleges across India with footfall around 8000. Pearl hosts a variety of cultural events and competitions which include music, dance, literary, photography and quizzing. The fest also hosts talks and pro-shows with celebrities and bands of national and international renown appearing and/or performing during the fest in the 9 years since its inception.

Biswa Kalyan Rath is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer and YouTuber. He came into prominence through the YouTube comedy series, Pretentious Movie Reviews with fellow comedian Kanan Gill. He played a supporting role in the 2016 Netflix sex comedy film Brahman Naman. He created the 2017 Amazon Prime Video's series Laakhon Mein Ek. On 9 December 2020, Rath married actress Sulagna Panigrahi.
Kanan Singh Gill is an Indian stand-up comedian, actor and YouTuber. He won the Punch Line Bangalore Competition. He is known for hosting the YouTube series Pretentious Movie Reviews where he reviews campy Bollywood films along with fellow stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath. He was one of the main personalities behind the YouTube Comedy Hunt and also co-hosted the YouTube FanFest India. In 2017, he released his own one-hour comedy special, Keep It Real on Amazon Prime Video. He made his debut on the big screen with the movie Noor, alongside Sonakshi Sinha. In 2018, he was also a judge on Comicstaan, a comedic reality TV show, on Amazon Prime Video.
ATMOS is the annual techno-management festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, located in Hyderabad, India. It is known for a wide range of events, such as workshops, quizzes, lectures, technical exhibitions and competitions. Among the notable events conducted annually during it are the national level quiz Enigma and BITS MUN Hyderabad. Started in 2012, ATMOS aims at improving the technical culture among Indian colleges as well as providing a platform to showcase their abilities. In its sixth year now, ATMOS is growing rapidly with participation from students, academicians, entrepreneurs and speakers from all over India.
The City Central Library is located in Chikkadpally and it is the biggest library after state Central library with 1000 students and 500 readers visit library every day. It works on all days from 8am to 8pm.
Vivek Sagar is an Indian music composer, record producer and playback singer who works in Telugu cinema. He debuted with the film, Pelli Choopulu (2016). Upon critical acclaim for the album garnered him his first nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Music Director – Telugu at 64th Filmfare Awards South.
Hussain Haidry is an Indian spoken word poet, writer and lyricist. He gained prominence for his spoken word poem titled, "Hindustani Musalmaan". He has written lyrics for the Bollywood films Gurgaon, Qarib Qarib Single, Mukkabaaz and Taish.
Chalo is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language comedy drama film written and directed by director Venky Kudumula marking his debut as a director. The film, produced by Usha Mulpuri on Ira Creations banner features Naga Shourya and Rashmika Mandanna. Mahati Swara Sagar composed the soundtrack and the background score for the film while Sai Sriram provided the cinematography and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao did the editing for the film. The film was extensively shot in Hyderabad.
Kandikonda was an Indian film lyricist known for his works in Telugu cinema. Kandikonda was born in Nagurlapally, Narsampet Mandal, Warangal district. He was awarded a doctorate for his thesis on Situational songs in Telugu cinema from Osmania University.
Naveen Polishetty is an Indian actor and screenwriter who works in Telugu and Hindi films. He made his debut as a lead in the film Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya (2019), for which he received Zee Cine Awards Telugu – Best Find of the Year. He later made his Hindi debut in the film Chhichhore (2019). In 2021, he starred in the comedy film Jathi Ratnalu, which was successful at the box office.
Oasis is the annual cultural festival of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. Started back in 1971, it is one of the oldest cultural festivals in India. It is usually held towards the end of October every year. Events are organized for a continuous duration of 96 hours and are completely managed by the student body. It hosts a variety of events in various categories like Dance, Drama, Literature, Comedy, Fashion and Music. The festival is organized with a different theme every year. In 2022, the festival will observe golden jubilee and the official theme selected is Chapter 50: Demesne of The Lost Gold.
Dhanunjay Seepana is an Indian playback singer who has recorded songs for films in various Indian languages, primarily in Telugu.
