Vicki Hennessy was the sheriff of San Francisco and the city's first female sheriff. [2] She was appointed interim sheriff by Mayor Ed Lee pending an ethics investigation of the elected sheriff,Ross Mirkarimi,who was charged with domestic violence battery and later agreed to a plea bargain in which he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment. [3] She is not related to former San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey.
Hennessy is a native of San Francisco and a graduate of Lowell High School. Her husband is a retired San Francisco police officer. She is the mother of two grown children. [4]
In December 1975,Hennessy joined the San Francisco Sheriff's Department,reached the rank of captain in 1983 (becoming the youngest in California),and became chief deputy sheriff in 1997. In 2006,she became the deputy director of the San Francisco Department of Emergency Services and Homeland Security,and from 2008 to 2011 she was San Francisco's director of emergency management. She retired in 2011,but came out of retirement in 2012 to become interim sheriff during the six-month period in which Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi was suspended. [3] [5]
On November 17,2014,Hennessy announced that she would run for sheriff of San Francisco. [6] In March 2015,she received the endorsement of the one hundred members of the San Francisco Sheriff's Managers and Supervisors Association,77 percent of whom voted to endorse Hennessy. [7] Hennessy defeated incumbent Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi with 61 percent of the vote. [8]
Matthew Edward Gonzalez is an American politician,lawyer,and activist. He served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 2001 to 2005 and was president of the Board. In 2003,Gonzalez,running as a member of the Green Party,lost a race for mayor of San Francisco to Democrat Gavin Newsom. In the 2008 presidential election,Gonzalez ran for vice president as the running mate of candidate Ralph Nader. As of 2020,he works as the Chief Attorney at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office.
The San Francisco Sheriff's Office (SFSO),officially the City and County of San Francisco Sheriff's Office,is the sheriff's office for the City and County of San Francisco. The current sheriff is Paul Miyamoto. The department has 850 deputized personnel and support staff. The SFSO is a separate organization from the San Francisco Police Department. However,SFSO deputies and SFPD officers have all attended a POST-mandated police academy,and are duly sworn California peace officers.
Carmen Chu is an American politician serving as City Administrator of the City and County of San Francisco. She previously served as the city's assessor-recorder,where she was the only Asian-American assessor elected to serve among the 58 counties in the State of California. Prior to being elected assessor-recorder,Chu served as a member of the San Francisco board of supervisors,where she served two terms as the chair of the board's budget and finance committee,and was a board director of the Golden Gate Bridge,Highway and Transportation District. Before joining the board of supervisors,Chu served as deputy budget director in the mayor's office of public policy and finance. In July 2022,she was appointed to the Regents of the University of California by Governor Gavin Newsom.
Eric Lee Mar is an American politician. He served on the San Francisco Board of Education and San Francisco County Democratic Central Committee. In 2008,he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He represented District 1.
Michael Hennessey is an American attorney and former Sheriff of San Francisco. Hennessey was elected in a run-off election in December 1979 and served until 2012,becoming the longest serving Sheriff in the history of San Francisco and was the longest tenured Sheriff in the State of California.

On July 1,2015,32-year-old Kathryn "Kate" Steinle was shot and killed while walking with her father and a friend along Pier 14 in the Embarcadero district of San Francisco. She was hit in the back by a single bullet. The man who fired the gun,JoséInez García Zárate,said he had found it moments before,wrapped in cloth beneath a bench on which he was sitting,and that when he picked it up the weapon went off. The shot ricocheted off the concrete deck of the pier and struck the victim,who was about 90 feet (27m) away. Steinle died two hours later in a hospital as a result of her injuries.

A special election was held for Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco on June 5,2018,to fill the remainder of the term of Ed Lee,who had died in office on December 12,2017. Upon Lee's death,London Breed,President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors,became Acting Mayor of San Francisco,but a vote of six supervisors replaced Breed with Supervisor Mark Farrell. The mayoral election was held concurrently with the statewide direct primary election. In San Francisco,the election for the eighth district member of the board of supervisors was also on the ballot.

The 2022 San Francisco Board of Education recall elections were held on February 15,2022. In a landslide election,over two-thirds of voters chose to remove three San Francisco Board of Education Commissioners—Alison Collins,Board President Gabriela Lopez,and Faauuga Moliga—from office. All three commissioners were replaced by appointees chosen by Mayor London Breed. The other four members of the school board were not eligible for recall at this time.
The 2022 San Francisco District Attorney special election was held on November 8,2022,following the successful recall of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin. It was held concurrent with the 2022 statewide general elections.
