Paul Miyamoto is an American sheriff. He is the 37th sheriff of San Francisco,the first East Asian American sheriff in California history and the second from the department to be elected into office.
Miyamoto is a native of San Francisco and a graduate of Lowell High School. [1] His father was Philip Miyamoto,an appellate judge for the state of California of Japanese descent. [2] His mother is of Chinese descent. [3]

Miyamoto joined the San Francisco Sheriff's Department in 1996. [5]
He first ran for sheriff in 2011,placing second against Ross Mirkarimi. [5] Mirkarimi promoted him from Captain to Assistant Sheriff in February 2012. [6]
Miyamoto was Chief Deputy when he ran for sheriff to succeed Vicki Hennessy in 2019. [5] He ran unopposed after his opponent Ron Terry dropped out of the race. [7] He was sworn in on January 8,2020,as the city's 37th sheriff. [2]
In March 2020,at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in San Francisco,Miyamoto suspended county jail visits and programs to preemptively stop the spread of COVID-19. Non-contact visits with legal counsel were permitted. [8]
Miyamoto's family was interned during WWII at Heart Mountain Relocation Center. [3] His grand-uncles served in 442nd Infantry Regiment. [9] He is married with five children. [2]
Miyamoto said that films like The Choirboys (1977) and End of Watch (2012) and television show Hill Street Blues (1981–1987) depict an accurate portrayal of law enforcement. [10]

Vicki Hennessy was the sheriff of San Francisco and the city's first female sheriff. She was appointed interim sheriff by Mayor Ed Lee pending an ethics investigation of the elected sheriff,Ross Mirkarimi,who was charged with domestic violence battery and later agreed to a plea bargain in which he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment. She is not related to former San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey.
On July 1,2015,32-year-old Kathryn "Kate" Steinle was shot and killed while walking with her father and a friend along Pier 14 in the Embarcadero district of San Francisco. She was hit in the back by a single bullet. The man who fired the gun,JoséInez García Zárate,said he had found it moments before,wrapped in cloth beneath a bench on which he was sitting,and that when he picked it up the weapon went off. The shot ricocheted off the concrete deck of the pier and struck the victim,who was about 90 feet (27m) away. Steinle died two hours later in a hospital as a result of her injuries.
David Sen-Fu Chiu is an American politician currently serving as the City Attorney of San Francisco. Previously,he served in the California State Assembly as a Democrat representing the 17th Assembly District,which encompasses the eastern half of San Francisco.Chiu was the Chair of the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee,a position he held from 2016 to 2021,and the former chair of the California Asian &Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.

Shamann Walton is an American politician from Vallejo. He has been a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors since 2019,representing District 10,and served as President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from January 8,2021 to January 9,2023. Walton earlier served on the San Francisco Board of Education and was its president immediately prior to his election as supervisor.
