Vicky Bharat Chandhok (born 7 April 1957) is an Indian racing driver and motorsport administrator. He served as the president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) from 2003 to 2005, and from 2010 [1] to 2013, [2]
Vicky Chandhok is born to Bharat Indu Chandhok, the second son of Lala Indersain Chandhok, who used to participate in Sholavaram races. His father was also one of the founders of FMSCI and Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC). [3] His grandfather, Lala Indersain Chandhok, was an avid enthusiast who sowed the seeds of motorsports in the family. In 1982, [4] Chandhok married Chitra, and they had two sons, Suhail Chandhok and Karun Chandhok, India's second F1 driver.
Chandhok made his debut as a driver in a modified Ambassador at Sholavaram in 1972. He raced in the 1970s and 1980s [5] and also participated in the Indian National Rally Championship [6] for many years. He quit racing and rallying in 2000 after 28 years, having won over 350 awards. [7] After a five-year hiatus, he competed in the South India Rally again in 2000, [8] which he won in a Mitsubishi Lancer that had just made its debut in Indian rallying. Sandeep Lal was his co-driver, and Manoj Dalal, his long-time navigator, was the event's Clerk of the Course. He made a brief comeback in 2018, competing in the South India Rally 2018 at the age of 61. [9] He and co-driver Chandramouli finished third in the INRC1 category. [10] [11]
Vicky Chandhok helped bring the Indian Grand Prix Formula 1 race to India during his second term as president of the Indian federation. [12] [13] [14] [15] As a representative of the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone, he also oversaw the construction of the F1 track at Buddh International Circuit. [16] He served as a consultant for Jaypee Sports International (JPSI), the company that built and owned the Formula One track in India. He currently serves on the FIA Truck Racing Commission and is a member of the FMSCI Council. [17] Additionally, he has won multiple Indian rallying titles. [18]
Chandhok established the Wallace Sports and Research Foundation (WSRF) in 1989 to train rally and race drivers. It was registered as a Partnership firm in 1991. [19] Akbar Ebrahim, who became the president of FMSCI, [20] was one of the first students at the Wallace Foundation. Under Wallace's direction, Ebrahim competed in his first race at the then brand-new Madras Motor Sports Track [21] which is now renamed as Madras International Circuit. WSRF has trained many motorsports athletes and conducted events over the years.
Cholavaram, also spelled Sholavaram, is a suburb 24 km (15 mi) north of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is popular as Sholavaram and is also known for the Cholavaram lake. Adjoining the lake, there was a defunct Air Force Airfield which was used as a motor racing track. It was an air strip used during World War II; After the Madras Motor Sports Club was formed in mid-50s, it selected Sholavaram to conduct its racing events. Since then racing events took place every year and continued till late 1980s until the Madras Motor Sports Club built a new track at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur, Chennai.

Karun Chandhok is an Indian former racing driver and broadcaster, who competed in Formula One at 11 Grands Prix from 2010 to 2011.
Sundaram Karivaradhan Naidu or Kari was an Indian formula racing driver, designer and a business executive. He was one of the pioneers of Indian motorsports. He designed the Formula Maruti open wheeled race car and supported Indian racers, notably Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok, and Armaan Ebrahim, in their entry into motorsports. He was later killed in an air crash, aged 41.
The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, abbreviated as FMSCI, is the governing body for motor sports in India and was founded in 1971. It is a long-standing member of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the world bodies for 2/3 and 4 wheeler motor sport respectively.

Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) is a rallying National Championship in different classes with a series of rounds, organised under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), which is the Governing Body or ASN of India recognised by FIA culminating with National Champion Driver and Co-Driver. The driver and co-drivers's championship are based on a point system. The championship first received its National Championship title status in 1988. Karna Kadur and co-driver Musa Sherif became the 2024 National champions after winning the Overall title at Tumakuru on 15 December 2024. He drives for Team Arka Motorsports in a Volkswagen Polo R2. The 2024 National Championship began in Chennai from 15 March 2024 with the South India Rally (SIR) which is also a round of the APRC Asia Cup.
The Motorsports Association of India (MAI) was the national sporting authority (ASN) of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) in India for a period between 2000 and 2008. It was the association responsible for the control and promotion of motorsport in India under the International Sporting Code of the FIA for a few years. The current ASN is Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India (FMSCI). MAI was a rival body formed by Nazir Hoosein.

The Madras International Circuit is a permanent motor racing circuit located in Irungattukottai, Chennai, India. It was built in the late 1980s and was inaugurated in 1990. It was the first permanent racing circuit in India and is owned by the Madras Motor Sports Club. In July 2022, the track was renamed as Madras International Circuit.

Leelakrishnan, also known as Leela in Indian motorsport circles, is a six-time Indian National Rally Championship Champion and one time Indian Formula 3 champion from Coimbatore, India. He is also a rally and race car tuner and is currently the Chief Technical Director of Red Rooster Racing.
Karna Kadur is an Indian National Rally Champion. He began with National racing series and also achieved immense success in Indian rallying with seven National rally titles in different classes. He won three Overall National Rally Championship victories 2016,2022 & 2024 with Arka Motorsports. He is with Arka Motorsports and drives in MRF Tyres colours under the mentorship of N Leelakrishnan, his mentor, engineer and tuner. He is also the first driver to get a National Championship title for Volkswagen Polo along with co-driver Nikhil Pai.
Suhail Chandhok is an Indian television presenter and commentator with Star Sports, having presented for various sports such as cricket, hockey, kabaddi and football amongst others. He also made a brief stint as an actor with the Tamil film Veeram alongside Ajith Kumar. Suhail is the son of Vicky Chandhok, multiple Indian rallying champion and President of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India. He is the younger brother of Karun Chandhok, one of the two Formula 1 racing drivers from India.
Nikhil Vittal Pai is an Indian rally co-driver who won the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for four-wheelers twice in 2016 and 2022. He is one of the most-experienced co-drivers currently taking part in INRC for four-wheelers from 1992.
Akbar Ebrahim is a well-known Indian motorsports driver. He is the first Indian to take part in an international race when he participated in the British Formula 2 in England. He is currently the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India from September 2020. He is also the head of the International Karting Commission, the CIK of FIA.
Arjun Balu is an Indian motorsports driver. After starting as a road racing driver in 1992, he took part in the Indian National Rally Championship for 17 years. He won 11 Championships, all in road racing and is currently racing in the Indian Touring Car (ITC) class in the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023. He is the reigning National champion in the ITC class (2022).
Karnataka Motor Sports Club, popularly known as KMSC, is a state association for promoting and conducting motorsports in the Indian state of Karnataka. The club is based in Bengaluru. It is a founder member of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI), the governing body for motor sports in India. It is one of the oldest ‘active’ motorsports clubs in India. It holds the record of organising the Karnataka 1000 rally continuously for the last 48 years.
