Madras Motor Sports Club is an Indian auto racing club founded in 1952 and based in Chennai, India. Madras Motor Sports Club with its history of over 50 years is the reason that Chennai can be called the epicentre of motor racing in India. [1]

Madras Motor Sports Club, located at the village of Irungattukottai near Sriperumbudur, Chennai organises world class racing events every year, including the South India Rally and the All India Motor Race Meet. Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and the Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile (FISA) have licensed the club for races up to Formula Three for cars and all classes for motorcycles. The club also has a dirt track for autocross events.

MMSC hosts at least 14 racing events both cars & bikes, and equal number of TSD rallies in the city. A good number of MMSC family members and prodigies are today racing worldwide

In the year 1952, while a 1948 M G T F was being cleared from the Madras Harbour, discussions between the owner and R. De Souza on motor racing, rallying, etc. gave birth to the idea of a Motor Sports Club Englishman Rex Strong was a member of Calcutta Motor Sports Club when he met Indian K. Varugis who was searching for auto racing enthusiasts to form an auto racing club. In 1954, MMSC was founded but the first president was G. M. Donner. K. Varugis became the Hon. Secretary and Rex Strong was just one of the Committee member. Regional auto racing had been held at Sholavaram Airstrip since 25 October 1953. Since 1954, racers and organizers had been having dinner in MMSC after race meeting in Sholavaram. [2] [3] MMSC used to host Moped, Scooter, Superbike and Indian Saloon car racing, in addition to other top-level auto racing series like Formula 5000, Formula Two and Formula Atlantic at Sholavaram.

Recently, MMSC has all their race meetings in Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur, Chennai. [4]

Adjoining the lake, there was an defunct Air Force Airfield which was used as a motor racing track. It was an air strip used during World War II; After the Madras Motor Sports Club was formed in mid-50s, it selected Sholavaram to conduct its racing events. Since then racing events took place every year and continued till late 1980s until the Madras Motor Sports Club built a new track at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur, Chennai. Cholavaramis a locality situated in Chennai and the pin code of this locality is 600067. It is the northern part of the Chennai Metropolitan City and also a part of the area covered by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

Kari Motor Speedway is a purpose-built Formula 3 auto racing circuit or race track, located in Chettipalayam, Coimbatore, India. The 2.100 km (1.305 mi) long track was inaugurated in 2003. The circuit is named after S. Karivardhan.

Sundaram Karivaradhan Naidu or Kari was an Indian formula racing driver, designer and a business executive. He was one of the pioneers of Indian motorsports. He designed the Formula Maruti open wheeled race car and supported Indian racers, notably Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok, and Armaan Ebrahim, in their entry into motorsports. He was later killed in an air crash, aged 41.

Formula LGB Hyundai is a single seater, open wheel class of motorsport in India launched in 2006 by LGB with Hyundai the engine supplier. The cars are powered by 1.4 liter Indian built Hyundai Accent engines in the entry level JK Road Racing National Championship series. This car along with Formula LGB Swift can be considered as an Indian equivalent of Europe's Formula Ford series, where it is void of aerodynamic aids like wings. This series is one of the starter formula series to enable karting drivers step into a formula car.

Formula Rolon, also known as Formula Rolon Chevrolet and later Formula Rolon 2010 is an open wheel single seater Formula Racing car made and raced in India. They run in the single make championships held in the tracks of Coimbatore and Chennai. The car is similar to Formula Asia, and was powered by 1600cc Chevrolet and later Suzuki engines with a racing gear box. The car was launched in Mumbai December 2005 and made its debut in Coimbatore track in September 2006. The 2010 season was its last season as LG Sports announced that it will not enter Formula Rolon for the 2011 season.

Dilip Rogger is an Indian superbike racer. He is the first Asian to compete in the German National Championship Endurance Race. In 2009 he qualified as one among 18 racers, selected from a lot of 62 riders, Race - 42. He rode the KTM RC 8 R 1190 cc version of the LC8 bike. He is also a hardware, software and multimedia professional.

Arun Muthukrishnan. He started his career in motorcycle racing with a burning passion for the sport. He has finished 2nd in the 2012 SIDVIN MMSC-FMSCI Indian national motorcycle championship and 3rd in the Yamaha one make championship 2012. Arun Muthukrishnan has also represented India in the 2012 Yamaha ASEAN cup held in Philippines.

MRF Racing is an Indian racing team that competes in car racing and rallies.

Vicky Bharat Chandhok is an Indian racing driver and motorsport administrator. He served as the president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) from 2003 to 2005, and from 2010 to 2013,

Akbar Ebrahim is a well-known Indian motorsports driver. He is the first Indian to take part in an international race when he participated in the British Formula 2 in England. He is currently the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India from September 2020. He is also the head of the International Karting Commission, the CIK of FIA.
