Irungattukottai is a fast emerging neighbourhood of Chennai, strategically[ citation needed ] on the Chennai-Bangalore Highway (NH4). It is approximately 34 km from downtown Chennai. Irungatttukottai is part of the Kancheepuram District. It is Western part of the suburbs of the Chennai Metropolitan Area. It is a part of the area covered by CMDA.

Over the last decade, Irungattukottai has seen significant investments by large manufacturing industries and the Tamil Nadu Government. The State Industries Promotions Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has set up a large industrial complex aimed primarily at the manufacturing industry as well as a special economic zone (SEZ) for the footwear industry.

Irungattukottai is the location of Hyundai Motors large manufacturing facility. The plant forms a critical part of Hyundai's global export hub. It currently exports to around 85 countries across Africa, Middle East, Latin America, Australia, and Asia Pacific.

India's first private air freight station is getting ready to be operational at Irungattukottai and the soft launch of the project took place on 17 July 2015. [1]

A number of engineering colleges and schools are in Irungattukottai.

Dining

Over the last few years, a large number of speciality dining restaurants have emerged at Irungattukottai. They cater to the large number of South Korean ex-pats who work primarily for Hyundai and other Korean companies in Irungattukottai. These restaurants are mostly located on the NH4 highway.

Choki Dhani is a Rajasthan-themed entertainment centre thatserves traditional Rajasthani cuisine.

The Madras Motor Race Track (Irungattukottai Race Track) permanent motor racing circuit is in this town. It was built in the late 1980s and was inaugurated in 1990. It is the first of its kind in India and is owned and operated by the Madras Motor Sports Club.

Avadi is a suburb city within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, located in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India, about 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Chennai Central Railway Station. It is surrounded by major defence establishments and is home to various universities and engineering colleges. The city is served by Avadi Railway Station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. As of 2011, Avadi had a population of 345,996, which is 10th most populous place in Tamil Nadu. It is home to the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Ordnance Factory Board (ODF) which houses Engine Factory and Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE). The lake in Avadi was known as Paaleripattu, which is now found only in very old land documents.

Ambattur is located in northwestern part of Chennai City, in Ambattur taluk of the Chennai District, surrounded by Avadi, Anna Nagar, Padi, Mogappair, Kallikuppam, Surapet, Korattur, Ayappakkam, Athipet and Thiruverkadu. It covers an area of 45 km2 (17 sq mi). The neighbourhood is served by Ambattur railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. Ambattur has its origins in a village of the same name which can be located at present as areas opposite to Ambattur telephone exchange. Ambattur was a village with large extents of agricultural farm lands irrigated by the once-sprawling Ambattur Lake. In 2011, the neighbourhood had a population 466,205.

Sriperumbudur is a town panchayat in the Kanchipuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located 40 kilometers southwest of the capital city of Chennai on the National Highway 4 and is just outside the Chennai Metropolitan Area and part of the Chennai suburban area. It is a fast emerging neighbourhood of Chennai. Since 2000, Sriperumbudur has seen rapid industrialisation. It is known for being the birthplace of Sri Ramanuja, one of the most prominent Hindu Vaishnava saints. The former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated here in 1991.

C. U. Velmurugendran is an Indian neurologist, medical writer and the chairman and head of the Department of Neurology at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. He is an honorary professor at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati and has contributed chapters to books including Diseases of the Spinal Cord, published in 2012. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to medicine.

Salem has one Special Economic zone over 40 in Tamil Nadu, ELCOT has established an IT Special Economic Zone at Jagirammapalayam village, Salem, in an extent of 53.33 acres of land at an investment of Rs. 40.53 crore. Salem district also have local planning authority called Salem Local Planning Authority for development of Salem City Corporation area and Salem Metropolitan Area. And also for suburbs in Salem district.
