Nerkundram or Nerkunram is a census town located in Chennai City, Chennai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It falls under Maduravoyal (State Assembly Constituency) constituency in Tiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It consists of a portion of Ambattur taluk and part of Chennai Corporation. It falls under Sriperumbudur (Lok Sabha constituency). [1]

Nerkundram is located at 13°04′15″N80°11′05″E / 13.0707°N 80.1846°E / 13.0707; 80.1846 . [2] It has an average elevation of 18 metres (59 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [3] Nerkundram had a population of 39,544. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nerkundram has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 65%. In Nerkundram, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Tiruvallur is a Grade I municipality in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of Coovum river about 46 km (29 mi) from downtown Chennai (Madras) and just 5 km from megacity border, in the western part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA). Ambattur is a northwestern neighbourhood of Chennai, India. It is located in Ambattur taluk of the Chennai District, surrounded by Avadi, Anna Nagar, Padi, Mogappair, Kallikuppam, Surapet, Korattur, Ayappakkam, Athipet and Thiruverkadu. It covers an area of 45 km2 (17 sq mi). The neighbourhood is served by Ambattur railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway. It is located in between Perambur and Kodungaiyur. As of 2011, the neighbourhood had a population of 119,105. The Chennai district was expanded on 16 August 2018 by transferring Madhavaram taluk from Tiruvallur district to Chennai district.
