Victor Nekesa is a Ugandan physician, military officer and legislator. She represents the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) in the parliament of Uganda. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Background and education

Nekesa is a medical doctor by profession. She is also Uganda People's Defense forces (UPDF) officer at the rank of colonel. [5]

She was voted into parliament alongside two other female UPDF officers including Charity Bainababo and Jennifer Alanyo by the defence council. Nekasa got the highest number of votes in the females category. [6] [2] [7] [8] [5]

The defence council also nominated and voted seven men to represent the country's military in the parliament of Uganda. [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]

Career

Nekesa is a professional soldier and medical doctor. She is a personal physician of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni president of the republic of Uganda. [5]

In parliament, Nekesa serves as a member of the health committee. [15] [16]

Lieutenant General Samuel Kavuma, commonly known as Sam Kavuma, is a Ugandan senior military officer. Since March 2024, he has bene serving as the Commander of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). Before that, from 24 June 2021 until 24 March 2024, he was the deputy coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, a presidential appointment by Yoweri Museveni Immediately before that position, he served as the deputy commander of the Uganda People's Defence Force Air Force. Before that, Kavuma served as the Commander of the Uganda People's Defence Force Contingent in Somalia, as part of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM). He was appointed to that position in October 2014. He replaced Brigadier General Dick Olum, who served in that position from September 2013 until October 2014.

James Mugira is a lieutenant general in the Ugandan army. He is the managing director and chief executive officer of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). He was appointed to that position in April 2015. He concurrently serves as the managing director of Luweero Defence Industries Limited, the small-arms manufacturer owned by the UPDF. He has served in that capacity since 2011. From 2008 until 2011, at the rank of brigadier, he served as the director general of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, a division of the UPDF. Before that, he served as the commanding officer of the UPDF Armored Brigade, based in Masaka.

General Joram Mugume, is a military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He is the chairman of the board of directors of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the business arm of the UPDF. He was appointed to that position by the Uganda Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, on 20 February 2018. He has also served as the chairman of the "Military Land Board", another organ of the UPDF. He has been serving in that position since 2005, having served as Deputy Chief of Defense Forces in the past.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Peter Elwelu</span>

Peter Elwelu is a Lieutenant General in the Ugandan military, known formally as the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). Since 24 June 2021, he has been the Deputy Chief of the Defense Forces of the UPDF. He was appointed to that position on 24 June 2021. Since 9 January 2017, he has served as the commander of the land forces, which is the fourth-highest position in the UPDF hierarchy. From June 2013 until January 2017, he was the commander of the UPDF 2nd division, based in Mbarara, the largest town in Uganda's Western Region. Elwelu is most known for the Kasese massacre in which, according to Human Rights Watch, 153 people, including children, were killed. "They deserved to die," he told The Observer in May 2021.

Major General Gavas Mugyenyi, also Garvas Mugyenyi is a senior military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He serves as Uganda's military attache to India, effective January 2020.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Chief of Defence Forces (Uganda)</span> Head of the armed forces of Uganda

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) is the professional head of the Uganda People's Defence Forces. He is responsible for the administration and the operational control of the Ugandan military. The position was established after the National Resistance Army was reconstituted as the Uganda People's Defence Forces, three years after the NRA's victory in the Ugandan Bush War in 1986. The current CDF is General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

She is the immediate past deputy commander of the Uganda Special Forces Command, the special military unit of the UPDF responsible for presidential and first family security. She also represents the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) in the 11th Ugandan parliament.
