The Victoria Travellers Football Club was a Canadian football that played in the British Columbia Rugby Football Union and the Western Canada Rugby Football Union from 1926 to 1933 Club. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Contents

The team was sponsored by the Order of United Commercial Travelers, a service organization known for its good works, which had recently expanded into Canada. [5] The sponsorship ended in 1928 but the club continued on under another name. [6]

The Victoria Travellers Football Club won the first BCRFU championship, their only one in 8 seasons.

Victoria Capitals

The team was renamed Capitals in 1929, and lasted to 1933. A popular sports club, it fielded several other sports teams. [7]

Victoria Revellers

The final BCRFU team in Victoria was the Revellers, playing in 1939 and 1940 and winning the championship in the league's final season.

Rugby Canada is the national governing body for the sport of rugby union in Canada. Rugby Canada was incorporated in 1974, and stems from the Canadian Rugby Football Union, a body established in 1884 that now governs amateur Canadian football as Football Canada; and the now-defunct Rugby Union of Canada, established in 1929. The Westshore Rebels are a Canadian junior football team based in Langford, British Columbia. The Rebels play in the B.C. Football Conference, which itself is part of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and competes annually for the national title known as the Canadian Bowl. He is a three-time Grey Cup champion as a player, having won with the Tigers in 1928, 1929, and 1932. He later coached the Hamilton Flying Wildcats, leading them to the 1943 Grey Cup championship. He was an inaugural member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1963 and was also inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1975. Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario was named after him.

The British Columbia Rugby Football Union was a Canadian football league, founded on September, 1, 1926. It lasted for 15 seasons, disbanding in 1941 as the Second World War brought most league football to a close. It was a member of the Western Canada Rugby Football Union along with the Alberta Rugby Football Union, Saskatchewan Rugby Football Union and the Manitoba Rugby Football Union.

The 1936 season was the second season for the Calgary Bronks and it saw the team play a full schedule in both the Western Interprovincial Football Union and the Alberta Rugby Football Union. The Bronks finished 3rd in the WIFU with a 1–5 record while they fared much better in the ARFU with a 6–2 record and a first-place finish. It was by virtue of the finish in the ARFU that the Calgary Bronks made the WCRFU playoffs.

Al Ritchie

Alvin Horace "The Silver Fox" Ritchie was a Canadian football player, coach, administrator as well as ice hockey coach who was the head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1928 to 1932, 1935, and in 1942. He had many accomplishments and honors, including being named to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. The Al Ritchie Memorial Stadium, Al Ritchie Arena, and Al Ritchie Neighborhood are named in his honor. In addition to coaching the Roughriders, he was their manager in most of the 1920s, while coaching the Regina Pats football and hockey teams, while at the same time being a scout for the New York Rangers, which he did from the 1933 until his death in 1966. From about 1918 to about 1922, he was the coach of the Victoria Senior Hockey team, leading them to the championship in 1921 and in 1922. While coaching and managing the Roughriders from 1928 to 1932, they made the Grey Cup each season, but lost in all 5 matches. Ritchie was also player for a Saskatchewan rugby team in the 1910s before serving in World War I. While playing in the 1910s, he was a player-coach in baseball, hockey and lacrosse.

The Vancouver Athletic Club football team was a Canadian football that played in the British Columbia Rugby Football Union and the Western Canada Rugby Football Union from 1929 to 1936. The team was part of the popular and successful Vancouver Athletic Club, which fielded teams in several other sports.
