Vijay Lokapally is an Indian sport journalist and author. He started his career when he joined the Patriot newspaper in 1981, and later moved to The Hindu Group (writing for its publication The Hindu and Sportstar ) from 1986. He is based in Delhi and married to Sunanda, with whom he has a son, Akshay.

Career

Lokapally joined the newspaper Patriot in 1981, with his first article about the cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi. Bedi was impressed with the work, and Lokapally quoted this as a motivation to work as a cricket journalist. [1] He resigned from Patriot in 1986 and later joined The Hindu Group (writing for its publication The Hindu and Sportstar ), specializing in sports. He said that he felt "fortunate" to work with the company. He said, "My interest in writing came because of my passion to play and watch sports. And what better in life than to get paid for pursuing my hobby? The Hindu gave me assignments in India as well as overseas and it was wonderful to write about cricket from distant venues of the world." [2] A Delhi-based journalist, he married Sunanda, with whom he has a son named Akshay. [3] According to ThePrint , Lokapally has been considered in the media as one of India's most respected writers on cricket, [4] [5] and according to Sportskeeda, he is regarded as one of the most well-known sport journalist of India. [6]

He has written five books related to cricket in India. The first is The Virender Sehwag Story, chronicling the life of the former cricketer Virender Sehwag, which was published by UBS Publishers' Distributors on 3 May 2004. In an interview to Yahoo! Cricket, he admitted that he was happy with his collaboration with the company as it has given him "confidence to look at more opportunities". [2] He subsequently wrote Driven: The Virat Kohli Story, released by India's Bloomsbury Publishing on 1 October 2016. In a review carried by Daily News and Analysis , the critic G. Krishnan said that the book was written in "a simple manner with interviews from those who have seen Kohli closely from his younger days" and Vedam Jaishankar from Firstpost called it "memorable". [7] [8] His next two books are World Cup Warriors: The Boys in Blue (2019) and Speed Merchants: The Story of Indian Pace Bowling 1886 to 2019 (2020). Lokapally co-wrote the cricketer Rohit Sharma's biographical book The Hitman: The Rohit Sharma Story in 2020 as well. [6]

The Delhi cricket team is a first-class cricket team based in Delhi, run by the Delhi & District Cricket Association, that plays in India's first class competition, the Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They have won the Ranji Trophy seven times and have been runners-up eight. Their latest title in 2007-08 came after a long wait of 16 years. The previous win was in the 1991–92 season when they beat Tamil Nadu in the final. The team's home ground is Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The North Zone cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents northern India in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. It is a composite team of players from seven first-class Indian teams from northern India competing in the Ranji Trophy: Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Services. North Zone has the strongest track record of all the zones in the Duleep Trophy, as they have won the Trophy 17 times, with the next best team, West Zone having won 16 times. They hold the record for the most consecutive titles, five, from 1990-91 through to 1994-95.

The Indian cricket team made its Test cricket debut in 1932 and has since advanced to be among the top four test teams in the in each of 2005 to 2008. The team won the ODI Cricket World Cup in 1983 and 2011. In other major International victories, Team India won the Twenty20 World Cup in 2007 and ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 and 2013.

The Indian cricket team toured Australia from 24 November 2014 to 10 January 2015. The tour consisted of two tour matches and four Test matches. The first Test was originally scheduled on 4 December in Brisbane, but it was postponed because of the death of Phillip Hughes. Instead, Adelaide hosted the first Test from 9 December and the Brisbane hosted the second Test from 17 December. Following the draw in the third Test, Indian captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. After the draw in the final Test in Sydney, Australia won the series 2–0. Following the Test matches, Australia and India participated in the Carlton Mid Triangular Series with the England cricket team.

The BCCI Awards are a set of annual cricket awards given by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The awards recognise and honour the best Indian international and domestic cricketers for the past year. The awards were first given in 2006–07. The C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award was first presented in 1994. It is the highest honour bestowed by BCCI on a former player and is considered as one of the most prestigious awards in cricket.

Virender Sharma is an Indian former cricketer. He played in fifty first-class and forty List A matches for Himachal Pradesh between 1990 and 2006. He is now an umpire. Sharma stood as an umpire in the Twenty20 tour match between India A vs South Africans on 29 September 2015.

Harimohan Paruvu is an Indian author, former cricketer, columnist, screenwriter and motivational speaker, known for his English-language books centered on the game of Cricket.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured India in November and December 2017. The original schedule had the tour consisting of three Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and one Twenty20 International (T20I) match starting in February 2018.

Tarak Sinha was an Indian cricket coach who ran the Sonnet Cricket Club in Delhi. In a coaching career that spanned over fifty years, he coached over 12 cricketers who went on to play international cricket for India and more than 100 first-class cricketers. Some of his famous students included Ashish Nehra, Aakash Chopra, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan and Anjum Chopra. He also briefly served as the coach of the India women's national cricket team between 2001 and 2002.

The India cricket team toured South Africa from December 2021 and January 2022 to play three Tests and three One Day International (ODI) matches. The Test matches formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship.
