Vijay Madhavan is an Indian classical dancer.

Early years and education

A disciple of Chitra Visweswaran, Madhavan showed an acumen for classical dance from a young age. He received a degree in Zoology and obtained full-time work as a software product analyst prior to leaving the business world to concentrate fully on Bharatanatyam. [1]

Bharatanatyam

In addition to owning his own dance school, [1] he is also face of Jaya TV where he performs to the Bharathiyar song senthamizh nadenum pothinilae each morning. He is a regular performer in the Bhagavata Mela Natakams [2] and in August 2002 he won the Vasanthalakshmi - Narasimhachari Endowment Award for Talent Promotion. [3]

Personal life

Madhavan is married to carnatic vocalist Sumitra Vasudev, a disciple of Vidushi Vedavalli [1]

Durga Lal

Pandit Durga Lal was a renowned Kathak dancer of the Jaipur Gharana. He was born in Mahendragarh, Rajasthan. He is known for playing the title main role in the 1989 dance drama Ghanashyam; the music of which was composed by Pandit Ravi Shankar and was produced by Birmingham Opera Company. For his contributions to the field of Kathak form of dance he was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, by Government of India. He had also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 1984.

Alarmel Valli is a leading Indian classical dancer and choreographer and the foremost exponent of the Pandanallur style, in the Indian classical dance form, Bharatanatyam. She is widely acclaimed for her ability to turn a traditional grammar into a deeply internalized, personal dance poetry.
