Shankarrao Bhavrao Chavan was an Indian politician who served twice as Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1975 until 1977 and from 13 March 1986 until 24 June 1988. A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district (constituency) to the legislature of State government in the Indian system of government. From each constituency, the people elect one representative who then becomes a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Government of Maharashtra State government in India

The Government of Maharashtra is the Government for the state of Maharashtra in India. It is an elected government with 288 MLAs elected to the legislative assembly for a five-year term. Maharashtra has a bicameral legislature i.e. it consists of two houses: Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad. As is the case in a parliamentary system, the government is formed by the party, alliance or group of assembly members who command the majority, in the lower house. The leader of the majority in lower house becomes the Chief Minister and selects the cabinet members, from either lower (or) upper house. If one becomes CM or minister without being an MLA or MLC, he/she must become either of one within next 6 months. From the formation of the state in 1960, the Congress party or Congress-led alliance have ruled the state for the major part. Non-Congress government was first formed in 1978, then in 1995 with Shivsena-BJP alliance, and most recently in 2014 with a BJP-led alliance.

Rajendra Sukhanand Patni is an Indian politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Karanja constituency from Washim District in Maharashtra. In 2014 Legislative Assembly Elections of Maharashtra, Rajendra Patni won from Karanja Constituency. He was also the member of legislative Council from 1997–2003. He won the 2004 Legislative Assembly elections from Karanja. In 2009 he lost election and it is said that the loss was due to the oppose by some Shiv Sena leaders itself and due to increasing casteism as he belongs to minority. He is said to be very studious politician continuously doing positive changes for Washim District. In September 2011, he denied for working for shiv sena in the upcoming municipal council elections due to some internal problems with other party leaders of the districts and formed his own union of candidates known as "Washim Zilla Vikas Aaghadi". Shiv Sena suffered a great setback and loss due to his exit as he took with him a huge amount of party workers and the votes of the masses.

Maharashtra is a state in the western region of India and is India's third-largest state by area. It has over 112 million inhabitants and its capital, Mumbai, has a population of approximately 18 million. Nagpur is Maharashtra's second, or winter, capital. Government in the state is organized on the parliamentary system. Power is devolved to large city councils, district councils, sub-district (Taluka) councils, and the village parish councils. The politics of the state are dominated by the numerically strong Maratha–Kunbi community. There are national and regional parties in the state, serving different demographics, such as those based on religion, caste, urban and rural residents.

State governments in India are the governments ruling 28 states and nine union territories of India and the head of the council of ministers in a state is chief minister. Power is divided between the union government and state governments. While the union government handles military and external affairs etc., whereas the state government deals with internal security and other state issues. Income for the union government is from customs duty, excise tax, income tax etc., while state government income comes from sales tax (VAT), stamp duty, now these have been subsumed under SGST, GST—components of GST.

Devendra Fadnavis Indian politician

Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis is an Indian politician who is the current 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra, in office from 31 October 2014 to 12 November 2019. A member of Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, at the age of 44, he became the second youngest Chief Minister of Maharashtra after Sharad Pawar. Fadnavis represented the Nagpur South West constituency in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He was the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra from Bharatiya Janata Party and the second one after Vasantrao Naik to have completed his full tenure as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies and one member is nominated. The members of the upper house, the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad are indirectly elected through an electoral college.

Vinayak Raut is a Shiv Sena politician from Vile Parle, Mumbai in the Maharashtra state of India. Raut represents Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha. He was previously elected as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Vile-Parle for 1999-2004 as a Shiv Sena candidate. He was also elected as a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council from Shiv Sena Party in 2012. He resigned on 27 May 2014 from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Neelam Gorhe is an Indian politician and deputy leader of Shiv Sena from Maharashtra. She is Deputy Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council and a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council. She had been elected to Legislative Council for three consecutive terms, in 2002, 2008 and 2014.

2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election Assembly election in Maharashtra

The 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election was held on 21 October 2019 to elect all 288 members of the state's Legislative As kisembly. After a 61.3% turnout in the election, the ruling right-wing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (SHS) won a majority. Following differences over the government formation, the alliance was dissolved precipitating the political crisis. This general Election is yet to result in a council of ministers. President's rule has been imposed in Maharashtra after none of the 4 largest parties could manage to form the government.
