Alfredo Enrique Nalib Yabrán was a businessman in Argentina, with close links with the government, in particular with the administration of Carlos Saúl Menem. Yabrán killed himself while facing arrest for suspected involvement in the murder of photojournalist José Luis Cabezas.

It was the second tour of Argentina by England and was apparently arranged without the tour manager Geoff Cooke's knowledge and at an inconvenient time of the year for the England players in July and August.
