The Janata Dal (Secular) (transl. People Party (Secular);abbr.JD(S)) is an Indian regional political party recognised as a state party in the state of Karnataka,Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh. It was founded by the former prime minister of India H. D. Deve Gowda in July 1999 as a breakaway faction from the Janata Dal. It has a political presence mainly in Karnataka. In Kerala,the party is a part of the Left Democratic Front.
Siddaramaiah,also referred to by his nickname Siddu,is an Indian politician who is serving as the 24th Chief Minister of Karnataka since 2023. He also held that position previously from 2013 to 2018,being only the second person to hold that office for a full five-year term. He belongs to the Indian National Congress and is presently the leader of the Congress Legislative Party. He represented the Varuna Assembly constituency from 2023,previously from 2008 to 2018,Badami Assembly constituency from 2018 to 2023,and from Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency from 2004 to 2007,1994 to 1999 and from 1983 to 1989 in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1996 to 1999 and from 2004 to 2005 while he was a member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (Secular). He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly on two occasions from 2019 to 2023 and from 2009 to 2013. Siddaramaiah was a member of various Janata Parivar factions for several years.
Basangouda Ramangouda Patil Yatnal is an Indian BJP politician who was the Minister of state for Textiles from 1 July 2002 to 8 September 2003 and Minister of state for Railways from 8 September 2003 to 16 May 2004 and current MLA from Bijapur City Assembly constituency since 2018. He has been a member of parliament from the Bijapur constituency for two terms and has been a member of the legislative council from the Bijapur Local Authorities constituency for one term.

He is the son of former prime minister of India &former Chief Minister of Karnataka H. D. Deve Gowda.
Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi is an Indian politician from Karnataka and currently a member of Lok Sabha. He was Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation in 2016. He was member of the Twelfth,Thirteenth,Fourteenth,Fifteenth and Sixteenth Lok Sabha. He was inducted into PM,Narendra Modi's government as a Minister of State for Drinking Water &Sanitation on July 5,2016. He represents the Bijapur constituency (2019-2024) and is currently a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party which he joined in 2002. He has also been a member of Janata Dal and Ramakrishna Hegde's Vedike Party and Ram Vilas Paswan's Jan Shakti Party in 2001 when Hegde was planning to retire.
Ballari Sreeramulu is an Indian politician who served as Minister of Transport Department and Tribal Welfare of Karnataka from 4 August 2021 till 13 May 2023. He was the Minister of Social Welfare Department of Karnataka from 12 October 2020 to 26 July 2021. He was member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Bellary Rural Molakalmuru Constituency in Chitradurga district. He is the Social Welfare minister in the Government of Karnataka. Balaji Tangali Lalitha Naik is an Indian social activist,politician,writer,film actress who was the minister of Kannada,Culture,and Department of Women &Child Welfare of Karnataka. Naik has also served as an MLC (1986-1992) and MLA (1994-1999). She won the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 1991. She is also known for leading important literary,social and language-rights movements such as Bandaya movement and Gokak agitation.

The 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election was held on 12 May 2018 in 222 constituencies to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The election was postponed in Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar,following the death of the MLA B. N. Vijaya Kumar and a voter fraud scandal respectively till 28 May. The election saw a voter turnout of 72.13 per cent,the highest in Karnataka since several decades. The counting of votes took place on 15 May 2018.
