Vinay Katiyar (born 11 November 1954) [1] is a politician and the founder-president of Bajrang Dal,the youth wing of the Hindu nationalist organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in India. He has served as an All India General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),and as a Member of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Katiyar was born in a Kurmi family [2] [3] to Devi Charan Katiyar and Shyam Kali in Kanpur. [4] He holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce from Kanpur University. [1]
Katiyar started his political journey with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP),the student wing of the Sangh Parivar. He was the organizing secretary of ABVP's Uttar Pradesh state unit from 1970 to 1974,and the convener of the Jayaprakash Narayan's Bihar Movement in 1974. He became a pracharak (full-time worker) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1980. He founded the Hindu Jagran Manch in 1982. In 1984,he was chosen to start the new youth organisation Bajrang Dal to support the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. [1] [5]
Later,Katiyar served as the President of Uttar Pradesh State Unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2002 to 18 July 2004 and the national General Secretary of the BJP from 2006. [1]
Katiyar was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Ayodhya (Lok Sabha constituency) to the 10th,11th and 13th Lok Sabha in 1991,1996 and 1999,and to the Rajya Sabha as a representative of Uttar Pradesh in 2012. [1]
In a 2018 interview with ANI , Katiyar said that there was no need for Muslims to remain in India in the wake of its Partition,and that Muslims in India should,instead,move to Pakistan or Bangladesh. [6] [7] [8] These views were shared after his comments about the Taj Mahal,claiming that the monument was a Hindu temple in the period of Aurangzeb's rule and implied that it would soon be returned to its 'original state' through its destruction. The Akhil Bharatiya Jana Sangh (abbreviated asBJS or JS,short name:Jan Sangh,was an Indian nationalist political party. This party was established on 21 October 1951 in Delhi,and existed until 1977. Its three founding members were Shyama Prasad Mukherjee,Balraj Madhok and Deendayal Upadhyaya. Jan Sangh was the political arm of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh,a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. In 1977,it merged with several other left,centre and right parties opposed to the Indian National Congress and formed the Janata Party. In 1980,the members of erstwhile Jan Sangh quit the Janata party after the defeat in the 1980 general elections and formed the Bharatiya Janata Party,which is the direct political successor to the Jan Sangh.
Bajrang Dal is a Hindu nationalist militant organisation that forms the youth wing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). It is a member of the right-wing Sangh Parivar. The ideology of the organisation is based on Hindutva. It was founded on 1 October 1984 in Uttar Pradesh,and began spreading more in the 2010s throughout India,although its most significant base remains the northern and central portions of the country.

Uma Bharti is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The Liberhan Commission was a long-running inquiry commissioned by the Government of India to investigate the destruction of the disputed structure Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992. Led by retired High Court Judge M. S. Liberhan,it was formed on 16 December 1992 by an order of the Indian Home Union Ministry after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on 6 December and the subsequent riots there. The commission was originally mandated to submit its report within three months. Extensions were given 48 times,and after a delay of 17 years,the one-man commission submitted the report to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 30 June 2009. In November 2009,a day after a newspaper published the allegedly leaked contents of the report,the report was tabled in Parliament by the Home Minister P. Chidambaram.

The Ram Rath Yatra was a political and religious rally that lasted from September to October 1990. It was organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its Hindu nationalist affiliates,and led by the then-president of the BJP,L. K. Advani. The purpose of the yatra was to support the agitation,led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and its affiliates in the Sangh Parivar,to erect a temple to the Hindu deity Rama on the site of the Babri Masjid.
On 8 December 2014,Hindu nationalist groups affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were reported to have converted 100 –250 Muslims to Hinduism in Agra. The functioning of the Indian Parliament was log-jammed in December. News reports indicated that Muslim right wing groups in India have received a ‘lease of life’in trying to protest the conversions. After a full investigation,the Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission concluded that the Muslims had not converted as they continued to "remain Muslims."
