Vincent Babatunde Kwao Macaulay-Razaq, generally known as Vince Macaulay, is a British basketball coach. [1]

Career

Macaulay grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. [2] He is a graduate of the London International Film School. [3] In 1984, Macaulay and Jimmy Rogers founded the Brixton TopCats. [4]

He had kicked off his basketball career with Liverpool Attac in 1978. [4] He later played for Brixton TopCats, Tower Hamlets/London Towers and Hemel Royals. [3] In 1998, when serving as the Watford Royals' chief executive, Macaulay relocated the club to Milton Keynes, naming it Milton Keynes Lions. [5]

Under his reign as owner, Macaulay saw his team progress from whipping-boys to play-off contenders. On 17 May 2007, he returned to coaching the franchise for a third spell, [6] after the dismissal of Tom Hancock. [7] Macaulay had last coached the club when they were based in Hemel Hempstead and also stepped in as caretaker coach the last time Hancock was at the club in 1999. Following this period he was the Chairman of the BBL. He passed on the duty to Paul Blake, Managing Director of the Newcastle Eagles, in 2005. Macaulay also acted as a pundit for Sky Sports on NBA Sundays.

In 2012, Macaulay relocated the Lions franchise to London [8] and became head coach of the club. [9] Macaulay handed the job over to Nigel Lloyd in July 2015. [10] In January 2018, Macaulay was back as head coach of the London team. [11] In April 2020, US investment company 777 Partners bought the London Lions, Macaulay stayed involved as a minority stake holder and head coach. [12] His reign as London head coach ended in January 2022. [13]

In 2022, he was named head coach and general manager of the Manchester Giants of the British Basketball League. [14] He parted company with the Giants after one season. [15]

In June 2024, Macaulay was appointed head coach of the German ProA side Artland Dragons. [16] He won the first four league games of the 2024-25 season with the Dragons, but was sacked on 11 November 2024 after having suffered defeat in the following five. [17]

The 2005–06 BBL season was the 19th season of the British Basketball League, which ran from 23 September 2005 through to 11 April 2006. The season started earlier than usual because of England's participation in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, which took place during the regular season.

The 2007–08 BBL season, the 21st since the establishment of the British Basketball League, commenced on 9 September 2007, when the Plymouth Raiders succumbed to the Guildford Heat in the inaugural Cup Winners' Cup competition. The regular season started two weeks later on 21 September with 12 teams including new additions Birmingham Panthers, Everton Tigers and London Capital the later of whom stepped up from EBL Division 1 during the summer. After just one season in the top-flight, London United were forced to drop out due to the loss of its financial backer just weeks before the start of the season.

Tom Hancock is an American basketball player and coach. He started coaching college basketball at the University of Maryland in 1978, working for Lefty Driesell. After a year at the University of Evansville, he went to the University of Tennessee at Martin in the Gulf South Conference. Prior to his arrival, Tennessee Martin had lost more games than any other conference school. From the 1982-83 season until 1988, Hancock’s teams won more than any other school in the GSC; won two conference championships, were rated in the top 20 in Division II basketball four times, and went to the NCAA tournament twice. Hancock was voted GSC Coach of the Year in 1982-83 and was named the Best Men’s Basketball Coach in the history of Tennessee Martin by the ESPN Encyclopedia of College Basketball.

London Capital, officially called PAWS London Capital in reference to their partnership with PAWS Foundation, were a basketball team based in London, England. The team competed in the British Basketball League for a three-year period in 2007-2010, but were demoted to the second-tier EBL Division 1 following a review of the team's progress both on and off the court. The team were subsequently relegated to Division 2 at the end of the 2011/2012 season, and were withdrawn from the league in October 2013 for "failing to fulfil National League obligations".

The 1998–99 BBL season was the 12th season of the British Basketball League, known as the Budweiser Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, since its establishment in 1987.
