Vipul Goyal is an Indian stand-up comedian and actor. He is counted among the top comedy performers in India and also plays the main protagonist in the web-series Humorously Yours. [1] [2] The show is produced by The Viral Fever and depicts a semi-autobiographical account of his life interspersed with standup clips. [3] Vipul is the only Indian comedian with a dedicated show of his own, with more than 70 million views on his online videos across various platforms (as of August 2017). The show revolves around his struggles of becoming a comedian and season 2 depicts the life after his success. He is often called the Indian Seinfeld as he does some observational comedy. [4]

Early life

Vipul was born in Falna in Rajasthan, India. He studied electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. [5] He has been involved in theatre during college life. He was also a part of "Love in December", along with Nitin Gupta. He was greatly inspired by Indian stand-up comedian of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge fame, Raju Shrivastava. [6]

Career

Goyal is a pioneer of clean comedy and his content is based on topics like Indian dads, Facebook, engineering, Sachin Tendulkar, Indian trains, dating, management, and politics. [7] [8]

He is regularly invited to media forums for discussions on the Indian standup scene or his hilarious takes on current affairs. [9] [10]

He regularly performs at colleges and companies all over the country and went on his first official tour starting in late 2016 which continued into 2017. [11]

The series follows the life of a 12-year-old Harshu Gupta, played by Vishesh Bansal, in Jaipur, Rajasthan in the late 1990s. Panchayat is an Indian Hindi-language comedy drama streaming television series created by The Viral Fever for Amazon Prime Video. The series, scripted by Chandan Kumar, was directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, and features Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Sanvikaa, Chandan Roy, Durgesh Kumar, Ashok Pathak, Faisal Malik and Sunita Rajwar. It chronicles the life of an engineering graduate who joins as a Panchayat secretary in a remote fictional village of Phulera in Uttar Pradesh due to lack of better job options.

Modern stand-up comedy began around the turn of the century, evolving from a variety of sources including minstrel shows and vaudeville. Early stand-up comedians spoke directly to the audience as themselves without props or costumes, which distinguished these acts from vaudeville performances. These comics stood in front of the curtain during their shows, like early 20th century "front cloth" stand-up comics in Britain and Ireland whose numbers allowed the stage behind them to be re-set for another act.
