Virender Dev Dixit is a former Brahma Kumari adherent who went on to establish the Adhyatmik Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya or "the Advance Party" while claiming, on the basis of the Brahma Kumari teachings, to be the current spirit medium for their god, and founder Lekhraj Kirpalani. Brahma Kumari University released this official statement: [8]

"The Brahma Kumaris organization is not responsible for the acts and conduct including any illegal activities of Virender Dev Dixit and his organization 'Adhyatmik Vishwavidalaya' or its members in the past, present or future. The claims of the members of that organization to be part of the Brahma Kumaris or calling them as Brahma Kumaris is without our permission and not endorsed by us."

Godman is a colloquial unisex term used in India for a type of charismatic guru that is often raised to a demigod-like figure by their cult following. They usually have a high-profile presence, and are capable of attracting attention and support from large sections of the society. Godmen also sometimes claim to possess paranormal powers, such as the ability to heal, the ability to see or influence future events, and the ability to read minds.

Sarathi Baba or Srimad Sarathi Dev is a self-proclaimed godman from Odisha, India, currently under investigation for fraud. On 4 August 2015, a TV channel, Prameya News7, ran a report of him being a charlatan. The channel claimed that he had stayed in a luxury hotel in Hyderabad with a young woman. The report also included images of him wearing a T-shirt and jeans. This triggered widespread protests in the state. He was arrested on 8 August 2015. As of September 2015, the state police is investigating various charges against him.

Virender Lal Chopra was an Indian biotechnologist, geneticist, agriculturalist and a director-general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), known to have contributed to the development of wheat production in India. He was the chancellor of Central University of Kerala, a Chancellor of the Central Agricultural University, Imphal and a member of the Planning Commission of India. Sobha Brahma was an Indian painter and sculptor. He lived and worked in Guwahati. He graduated from the Kalabhavana Visva-Bharati University Shantiniketan West-Bengal. Brahma developed a unique individual style that mixed traditional folk and modern Indian art.
