Virginia's 65th House of Delegates district elects one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. Located in central Virginia, District 65 represents Powhatan County as well as parts of Chesterfield County, Fluvanna County, and Goochland County. The seat has been held by Republican R. Lee Ware since 1998. [1]
In the November 2017 election, Democrat Francis Stevens, a police officer at Virginia's state capitol, ran against Ware, a former teacher. [2]

Onzlee Ware is an American politician and judge. A Democrat, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in November 2003. He formerly represented the 11th District, which is made up of part of the City of Roanoke. He also served as the Minority Caucus Sergeant at Arms.
Jackson Hunter Miller is an American politician. In 2022, he was appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin as the Director of the Department of Criminal Justice Services. From 2006 to 2018, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 50th district, made up of the city of Manassas and part of Prince William County in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Republican Party, and was the House majority whip from 2012 to 2018. In the 2017 elections, Miller was defeated by Democratic socialist challenger Lee J. Carter in what was considered an upset.
Robert Lee Ware, Jr. is an American politician. Since 1998 he has served in the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 65th district west of Richmond, consisting of the entirety of his home county of Powhatan, the precincts of Skinquarter, Tomahawk, Woolridge, Brandermill, Swift Creek, Evergreen West, Edgewater, Midlothian, Roseland, and Midlothian North in Chesterfield County; the precincts of Fife, Three Square, Sandy Hook, and Goochland Court House 2, in Goochland County; and the precincts of Columbia and Fork Union in Fluvanna County. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Leon Mark Dudenhefer is an American politician. A Republican, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2011. He represented the 2nd district, made up of parts of Prince William and Stafford counties in Northern Virginia. Previously, he served 2005–2011 on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, representing the Garrisonville district. After deciding not to seek re-election to the House of Delegates in 2017, he decided to run for the Stafford County Board of Supervisors again, and was elected by a margin of 12 votes.

The Virginia House of Delegates election of 2017 was held on Tuesday, November 7. All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were contested. The Republican Party held a 66–34 majority in the House of Delegates before the election but lost 15 seats to the Democratic Party, resulting in the Republicans holding a 50–49 advantage. After a recount, the result of the election in the 94th district was called a tie. The candidate to hold the seat was determined by random drawing on January 4, 2018, which resulted in the Republicans holding a 51–49 majority.

The 2023 Virginia Senate election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates, to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023. These will be the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census.
