Vittoria Paganetti (born 17 June 2006) is an Italian professional tennis player. She has a career-high ITF junior combined ranking of No. 23, achieved on 29 July 2024.

Early life

Paganetti was born and raised in Bari. [1] She began playing tennis at the age of five. [2] She trains at the Circolo Tennis Bari under coach Raffaele Gorgoglione. [3] [4]

Junior career

In January 2024, Paganetti made her Junior Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open, where she reached the second round in singles. [5] [6] At the J300 Memorial Eduardo Ferrero in Villena, she reached the semifinals in singles and won the doubles title with compatriot Francesca Gandolfi. [7] [8] Later that year, she and partner Emerson Jones reached back-to-back Junior Grand Slam doubles semifinals at the French Open and Wimbledon. [9] [10] At the J300 Internationaux de Tennis Junior event in Repentigny, she reached the semifinals in singles and won the doubles title with Noemi Basiletti.

Professional career

In September 2022, Paganetti made her WTA 125 debut with a wildcard into the Open delle Puglie, but lost in the first round to Laura Pigossi. [11] She also received a wildcard into the 2023 tournament, but lost in the first round to Carole Monnet. [12] In November 2023, she and partner Gaia Maduzzi were runners-up $25k Archigen Cup in Solarino, losing to Linda Klimovičová and Julie Štruplová in the final. [13] [14]

In May 2024, after passing the pre-qualifying tournament, [15] Paganetti made her WTA Tour debut with a wildcard into the main draw of the Italian Open, [16] [17] but lost in the first round to compatriot Lucrezia Stefanini. [18] She was only the fourth player from Apulia to make the main draw in Rome. [19] In July, she reached the semifinals of the $15k Rimini Cup in Viserba as a junior exempt entry. [20]

Iga Świątek defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final, 6–2, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2024 Italian Open. This was her third title at the Italian Open in four years. She was the first woman to win a third title in Rome since Maria Sharapova in 2015, and the youngest to do so since Gabriela Sabatini in 1991. Świątek won the title without dropping a set or facing a tiebreak in any match; she became just the fifth woman to have won multiple titles in Rome without dropping a set.
