Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot is a Kenyan long-distance runner. She represented Kenya at the Summer Olympics in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016, winning the silver medal in the 5000 metres and bronze in the 10,000 metres at the 2012 London Olympics as well as gold in the 5000 m and silver in the 10,000 m at the 2016 Rio Olympics, setting a new Olympic record in the former. Cheruiyot won the silver medal in the 5000 m at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and became the world champion in the event at the 2009 edition, repeating this achievement in 2011, when she also won the 10000 m. She added gold for the latter event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. After taking a silver in the 3000 metres at the 2010 World Indoor Championships, Cheruiyot won a number of outdoor 5000 m titles that year, becoming Commonwealth Games, African and Continental Cup champion, as well as winning the Diamond League title.

At the same Championships she won the silver medal in the 400 m freestyle with the time of 4:04.15, all-time fourth fastest behind Federica Pellegrini's world record. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she finished fourth in the 400 m freestyle final. On 6 December 2008 she set the world record for the 200 m freestyle at the French National Championships in Angers, France in a time of 1:53.16. At the 2012 Summer Olympics her 4 × 200 m freestyle team won the bronze medal in a time of 7:47.49. Courtney Lynn Kaiulani Mathewson is an American water polo player, part of the US team that won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She played water polo for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins during their four-consecutive NCAA National Champion Women's Water Polo championships, and was named to the All-Tournament first team. At UCLA, she majored in sociology.

The 5000 metres at the Summer Olympics has been contested since the fifth edition of the multi-sport event. The men's 5000 m has been present on the Olympic athletics programme since 1912. The 3000 metres was the first women's Olympic long-distance track event, making its initial appearance at the 1984 Olympics, and this distance was extended to match the men's event from 1996 onwards. It is the most prestigious 5000 m race at elite level. The competition format typically has two qualifying heats leading to a final between fifteen athletes.
Coralie de Burgh, Lady Kinahan was a British Irish painter who won a bronze medal at the 1948 Olympic Exhibition. Born Coralie Isabel de Burgh to Captain Charles de Burgh, DSO and Isobel Caroline Berkeley de Burgh, she died on 31 July 2015 aged 90. In 1950 she married Ulster Unionist MP Robin Kinahan, with whom she had five children. With her husband she bought and restored Castle Upton at Templepatrick as their family home. One of her children, Danny, is also an Ulster Unionist MP.

These are the rosters of all participating teams at the women's water polo tournament at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The ten national teams were required to submit squads of 12 players. Additionally, teams could name one alternate player. In the event that a player on the submitted squad list suffered an injury or illness, that player would be able to be replaced by the player in the alternate list.
