Voxxclub is a German Neue Volksmusik band. Their signature song is their cover of "Rock Mi". [1]
Stefan Raaflaub, Korbinian Arendt, and Florian Claus met in 2010, when they performed in the Broadway musical Singin' in the Rain. [2]
The group was founded in Munich in 2012 by Martin Simma, who then also took over the management, along with students Michael Hartinger, Korbinian Arendt, Christian Schild, Florian Claus, Stefan Raaflaub and Julian David. The band members come from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. [1]
The group became known through two music videos, which they staged as if they were flash mobs, in which the band performed with a newly produced version of the song "Rock mi" (originally by the Austrian band AlpenRebellen ). The first flash mob, which included Voxxclub plus 50 other performers in a shopping mall in Munich, was motivated in part by the lack of financing for a professionally produced music video. [1]
Their debut album, Alpin, was released in March 2013 and reached the top 30 in Germany and Austria, which it held for several weeks. In Switzerland, it reached the top 50 for two weeks. The single "Rock mi" peaked at number 44 in both Germany and Austria and stayed on the German chart for 10 weeks, and on the Austrian chart for seven weeks. For Oktoberfest, the album was re-released with five additional songs and re-entered the charts, as did their single. The title "Rock mi" became in the interpretation of Voxxclub a popular song at the Oktoberfest. [3]
In 2014, Voxxclub was nominated for an Echo Music Prize in the Folk Music category. [4] In the same year, the group released in Hamburg with Roland Spremberg the album Ziwui. The title of the album goes back to the Tyrolean folk song "Ziwui" ("The song of the bird catcher", also called "Höttinger bird catcher song"), but is, except for the name, a completely new composition.
In 2014, Voxxclub went on a solo tour in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and in the same year did the "Festival of festivals" tour. On May 4, 2015, members announced on their Facebook page that Julian David was leaving the band. [5] In 2015, Voxxclub were again guests on the tour "Festival of Festivals – The party continues". In 2015 Voxxclub's album Ziwui was nominated for an Echo in the category "Folk Music".
Voxxclub released their third album, Geiles Himmelblau (Cool Blue-sky), in February 2016. They embarked on a solo tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and released the resulting DVD Geiles Himmelblau: Live. [6]
In 2017 Voxxclub was nominated for the third time for the Echo in the category "Folk Music". From March to May 2017, Voxxclub was a guest on the tour "Das große Schlagerfest" in Germany and Austria.
On 22 February 2018, the band took part in Our Song for Lisbon, the German preliminary vote for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. [7] [1]
The band's style, Neue Volksmusik, combines traditional German folk music with a modern style. [1] The musicians all had a personal connection to Alpine styles, and they wanted to dispel the myth that Alpine musical traditions were only suitable for previous generations. [1]
The band's image has been criticized as being predetermined by the music industry; this was reinforced by the group's appearances in Lederhosen, their seemingly alpine style of music.[ citation needed ]

Alpine folk music is the common umbrella designation of a number of related styles of traditional folk music in the Alpine regions of Slovenia, Northern Croatia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol (Italy).
Switzerland has long had a distinct cultural identity, despite its diversity of German, French, Italian, Romansh and other ethnicities. Religious and folk music dominated the country until the 17th century, with growth in production of other kinds of music occurring slowly.
Volkstümliche Musik is a modern popular derivation of the traditional Volksmusik genre of German-speaking regions. Though it is often marketed as Volksmusik, it differs from traditional folk music in that it is commercially performed by celebrity singers and concentrates on newly created sentimental and cheerful feel-good compositions. Volkstümliche Musik is sometimes instrumental, but usually presented by one or especially two singers and is most popular amongst an adult audience in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and also in South Tyrol (Italy), Alsace-Moselle (France), Netherlands, Flanders (Belgium), Slovenia, Silesia (Poland) and northern Croatia.
Sarah Connor is a German pop singer. She rose to prominence after she signed with X-Cell Records in 2000 and released her debut album Green Eyed Soul (2001) the following year. A dirndl is a feminine dress which originated in German-speaking areas of the Alps. It is traditionally worn by women and girls in some Alpine regions of Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. A dirndl consists of a close-fitting bodice with a low neckline, a blouse worn under the bodice, a wide high-waisted skirt and an apron.
Juli is a German alternative pop band from Gießen, Hessen, consisting of singer Eva Briegel, guitarists Jonas Pfetzing and Simon Triebel, bassist Andreas "Dedi" Herde and drummer Marcel Römer. The band was formed with this lineup from the band Sunnyglade in 2001.
The Schürzenjäger, formerly Zillertaler Schürzenjäger, are one of the most successful bands of Austria. The band was founded in 1973; according to the band history, they were named "Schürzenjäger" by a female bartender in Austria during a concert, when they didn't have a band name.
Eisbrecher is a German Neue Deutsche Härte band founded by Alexander Wesselsky and Noel Pix after their departure from Megaherz, with the founders describing their music style as "modern, electronic trip-rock". The band consists primarily of Alexander Wesselsky (vocals) and Rupert Keplinger (bass), with live support from Jürgen Plangger, Marc "Micki" Richter, and Achim Färber (drums). In the United States and Canada, their record label is currently Metropolis Records.
Christina Stürmer is an Austrian singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Linz, she rose to fame as the runner-up of the inaugural season of the ORF eins television talent series Starmania. Following her participation, she signed with Universal Music and released her debut single "Ich lebe" which spent nine weeks atop the Austrian Singles Chart. It was followed by the release of her first two albums, Freier Fall (2003) and Soll das wirklich alles sein (2004), both of which debuted atop the Austrian Albums Chart and produced eight top ten hits, including the number-one singles "Mama " and "Vorbei".
Unheilig is a German band that draws from a variety of influences, including various pop and electronic styles as well as heavier, nihilistic hard rock. The band was founded in Aachen in 1999 and principally consisted of singer Bernd Heinrich "Der Graf" along with various musical partners. He was accompanied for live shows by musicians Christoph "Licky" Termühlen, Henning Verlage, and Martin "Potti" Potthoff. The group's debut, Phosphor, came out in 2000.
Faun is a German band that was formed in 1998 and plays pagan folk, darkwave, and medieval music. The originality of their music style is that it falls back to "old" instruments, and the singing is always the center of attention. The vocals are performed in a variety of languages, including German, English, Latin, Greek, Scandinavian and Hungarian languages. Their instruments include Celtic harp, Swedish nyckelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, cittern, flutes, and many others.
The Grand Prix der Volksmusik was an annual regional song contest for folk music, held from 1986 until 2010. The countries taking part were Germany, Austria, Switzerland and, from 2000, South Tyrol.
Fräkmündt is a folk music project from Central Switzerland. The band calls its musical style "Ur-Folk". They re-interpret old folk songs of their region and create new songs based on legends, stories and the iconic landscape of central Switzerland. The music consists of elements of traditional Volksmusik from Switzerland as well as folk music from other regions, but also many other different styles of music. The project thus follows the old spirit of Swiss folk music, that has always been a constantly changing and growing mixture of different influences paired with local folklore. The lyrics are written and performed in the local High Alemannic German dialect. Since their formation in 2009, Fräkmündt have managed to get the attention of an international audience and their albums were positively reviewed in several countries.
Hubert von Goisern is an Austrian singer-songwriter and world musician. With his mix of rock music and elements of traditional Volksmusik he has become a prominent exponent of the so-called New Volksmusik and Alpine Rock in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. His stage name von Goisern refers to his hometown. Hubert von Goisern has won numerous record certifications and several national and international awards.
Milky Chance is a German rock band originating in Kassel. It consists of vocalist and guitarist Clemens Rehbein, bassist and percussionist Philipp Dausch, and their band members, Antonio Greger and Sebastian Schmidt.
Beatrice Egli is a Swiss pop and Schlager singer. She is the winner of season 10 of the German music competition Deutschland sucht den Superstar. Egli became the second contestant from Switzerland to win the title after another Swiss person, Luca Hänni, won the previous season of the series. She has sold over 1,000,000 records in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Santiano is a German band from the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, whose songs combine rock, Irish folk, sea shanty, and schlager music. The name Santiano is taken from the Hugues Aufray song of the same name. They topped the German album charts multiple times in the 2010s, also ranking high in Austrian and Swiss charts.
Ad Infinitum is a Swiss/German symphonic metal band. Originally a solo project of Swiss singer Melissa Bonny, it turned into a full band with arrival of drummer Niklas Müller, bassist Jonas Asplind and guitarist Adrian Theßenvitz. The band signed a deal with Napalm Records in July 2019 and released a debut album, Chapter I: Monarchy, in April 2020. In December 2020, Asplind announced he was leaving the band due to health issues, to be replaced by Korbinian Benedict as the new bassist.
DArtagnan is a German folk rock band from Nuremberg. The band's name makes reference to 17th century French soldier Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan, made famous by the author Alexandre Dumas in his d'Artagnan Romances, notably in the novel The Three Musketeers.
