It lies approximately 7 kilometres (4 mi) north-west of Łoniów, 22 km (14 mi) west of Sandomierz, and 67 km (42 mi) south-east of the regional capital Kielce.^[1]

It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998.
