WFC Tornado Kyiv was a Soviet and Ukrainian women's football club from Kyiv. The club was liquidated in 1993.
Founded in 1988 as Nyva Baryshivka and competed in several Soviet competitions including the Soviet Top League in 1990 and 1991. The club won the league in 1990 by beating the Russian Tekstilschik Ramenskoye in the final. [1] Next season the club relocated across Kyiv Oblast to Kyiv, but managed only to place 8th in its group (out of two). [2]
Following dissolution of the Soviet Union, in 1992 the club entered Ukrainian competitions in which it placed fourth. In 1993, WFC Tornado placed 3rd in the Ukrainian championship.
Football Club Dynamo Kyiv, also known as FC Dynamo Kiev, Dynamo Kyiv, Dynamo Kiev, or simply Dynamo, is a Ukrainian professional football club based in Kyiv. Founded in 1927 as a Kyivan football team of republican branch of the bigger Soviet Dynamo Sports Society, the club as a separate business entity was officially formed only in 1989 and currently plays in the Ukrainian Premier League, and has never been relegated to a lower division. The club has secured brand rights from the Ukrainian Dynamo society and has no direct relations to the sports society since 1989. Their home is the 70,050 capacity Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex.
The Ukrainian Premier League or UPL as a sports competition is the highest division of Ukrainian annual football championship. Originally known as the Vyshcha Liha it was formed in 1991 during the 1992 Ukrainian football championship upon discontinuation of the 1991 Soviet football championship and included the Ukraine-based clubs that competed previously in the Soviet top three tiers competitions as well as better clubs of the Ukrainian republican competitions. The initial season of the league featured six former Soviet Top League clubs among which were Dynamo, Shakhtar, Chornomorets, Dnipro, Metalist, Metalurh as well as four more clubs that previously also competed at the top league.

The Soviet Top League, known after 1970 as the Higher League, served as the top division (tier) of Soviet Union football from 1936 until 1991. The league's name was a conditional designation used for brevity since being completely owned and governed by the Football Federation of the Soviet Union. The full official name was the USSR Championship in football: Top League. An attempt to create an independent league as autonomously governed organization during "perestroika" period was denied by the Federation due to political culture in the Soviet Union.
Oleh Volodymyrovych Kuznetsov is a Ukrainian football coach and former professional player. He won domestic honours in the Soviet Union with Dynamo Kyiv, in Scotland with Rangers, in Israel with Maccabi Haifa and in Ukraine with CSKA-Borysfen Kyiv. Kuznetsov won 58 caps for the USSR national team between 1986 and 1991, being suspended for the final of UEFA Euro 1988 then was also selected for its successors, the CIS and Ukraine.
The 1992–93 Vyshcha Liha season was the second since its establishment. Tavriya Simferopol were the defending champions, having won their 1st national league title in history. A total of sixteen teams participated in the competition, fourteen of them contested the 1992 season while the remaining two were promoted from the Ukrainian First League.
1992 Vyshcha Liha was the first football championship organized in Ukraine after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and officially recognized by the UEFA. The last Soviet season finished in fall of 1991.

Dynamo Kyiv were the defending 13-times champions and came fifth this season. A total of sixteen teams participated in the league, twelve of them have contested in the 1990 season while the remaining four were promoted from the Soviet First League due to withdrawals. The representatives of the Baltic states as well as Georgia chose not to take part in the competition.
