WSF Championship

The WSF Championship, or WSF Open or WSF Open Championship is an annual snooker tournament held by the World Snooker Federation. [1]

History

The inaugural WSF Championship was held from 18 to 24 March 2018 in Qawra, Malta. The two finalists received a Main Tour Card for the 2018/2019 season while the four semi-finalists received an invitation to compete in the 2018 World Snooker Championship. Prize money for the event was €28,300. [4] Luo Honghao won the event beating Adam Stefanów in the final. [5] Kristján Helgason and Kacper Filipiak were the losing semifinalists. [6] There were 10 century breaks made in the event, with Igor Figueiredo making the highest break of 131. [7]

In 2024, Ka Wai Cheung has defeated Gao Yang 5–0 in the final to secure the title and his status as a main tour professional for the first time. [8] [9] [10]

The 2017–18 snooker season was a series of professional snooker tournaments played between 4 May 2017 and 7 May 2018. The season began with the pro–am Vienna Snooker Open in May 2017 and ended with the 2018 World Snooker Championship in April the following year. Ronnie O'Sullivan earned a joint-record five ranking titles in the season. He joined Stephen Hendry (1990/1991), Ding Junhui (2013/2014), and Mark Selby (2016/2017) in winning five ranking titles in the same season.

The 2018 WSF Championship was the first edition of the WSF Championship, an amateur snooker tournament that took place from 18 March to 24 March 2018 in Qawra, Malta. It was the first edition of the WSF Championships and also doubled as a qualification event for the World Snooker Tour. The best four players received an invitation to compete in the 2018 World Snooker Championship. Two best players received a Main Tour Card for the 2018/2019 season.

The 2019 World Seniors Championship was a snooker tournament, that took place from 15 to 18 August 2019 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. It was the first event of the 2019–20 World Seniors Tour. It was the tenth World Seniors Championship, first held in 1991. The event had a total prize fund of £63,500 up from £18,000 the previous year, with £15,000 more for the winner, at £25,000.

The 2018 SangSom Six-red World Championship was a six-red snooker invitational tournament held between 3 and 8 September 2018 at the Bangkok Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

Nutcharut Wongharuthai, better known as Mink Nutcharut, is a Thai snooker player who competes on both the professional World Snooker Tour and the World Women's Snooker Tour. She is the only woman known to have made a maximum break, having achieved the feat during a practice match in March 2019. She is, as of 2023, ranked number one in the world women's snooker rankings.

The 2018 World Women's Snooker Championship was a women's snooker tournament that took place at the Dolmen Hotel, St. Paul's Bay, in Malta from 14 to 17 March 2018. Defending champion Ng On-yee won the event with a 5–0 win against Maria Catalano in the final. Ng On-yee won the title without losing a single frame over all six of her matches and as champion, qualified to enter the 2018 World Snooker Championship.

The 2019–20 Challenge Tour was a series of snooker tournaments that took place during the 2019–20 snooker season. The Challenge Tour was the second-tier tour for players not on the main World Snooker Tour. The top player in the final rankings earned a two-year card to the World Snooker Tour from the 2020–21 snooker season. The following eight players in the rankings progressed to a play-off event, with the winner of that event also receiving a two-year place on the World Snooker Tour. Two of the events were postponed: Event five was rearranged due to poor weather conditions, whilst the play-off was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iulian Serhiyovych Boiko is a Ukrainian snooker player who was professional from 2020 to 2022.

Stan Moody is a British professional snooker player from Halifax, West Yorkshire. In February 2023 he won the WSF World Junior Championship, and with it earned a two-year card on the World Snooker Tour starting with 2023–24 snooker season.

Liam Pullen is an English snooker player from Yorkshire. In April 2023 he became the England under-18 snooker champion. He has earned a two-year card on the World Snooker Tour starting with 2023–24 snooker season.

Manasawin Phetmalaikul is a professional snooker player from Thailand. In 2023 he earned a two-year place on the World Snooker Tour.

The 2024–25 snooker season is an upcoming professional snooker season with tournaments played between 2024 and 2025.
