Waconia High School is a public high school located in Waconia, Minnesota, United States. A part of Waconia Public Schools, the school has an enrollment of approximately 1,200 students in grades 9 through 12 and serves the communities of Waconia, St. Bonifacius, Minnetrista, Victoria and New Germany.

History

After a previous 2011 referendum failed, [3] a November 2014 referendum to expand Clearwater Middle School and turn it in to a new high school passed. [4]

Demographics

WHS is 92% white, 4% Hispanic, 1% black and 1% Asian. 1% of students also identify as a part of two or more races. [5]

Academics

Advanced Placement program classes are offered at Waconia. About forty percent of WHS students take at least one AP class at some point in high school. [6]

Athletics

After previously competing in the Wright County Conference, Wildcat teams moved to the Metro West Conference in advance of the 2020–2021 school year. [7]

Performing arts

Waconia has two competitive show choirs: the Varsity-level "Power Company", the Junior varsity-level mixed group "The Current", and formerly, the Junior varsity-level women's group "Illuminations". [16] The show choir program also hosts the annual Waconia Star Power show choir competition the third weekend of February. [17]

The band program hosts The Lake Waconia Band Festival every year in the third week of June. [18]

Mahtomedi Senior High School is a four-year public high school located in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, United States. The school houses grades 9–12 with a total population of approximately 1,146 students. About 22% of this population are from surrounding districts due to open enrollment. The school colors are blue and gold, and the athletic teams are known as the Zephyrs. The district was created in 1870, and the original high school was built in 1930. In 1970 a new high school building was constructed several miles south east of the original building and this remains the current high school campus. Based on standardized test scores the State of Minnesota has awarded the school a five-star rating, the highest level that can be achieved. In 2006, Newsweek ranked the school #675 in its "List of the 1200 Top High Schools in America." The school has also made adequate yearly progress in compliance with No Child Left Behind standards. As of 2015 the school had a demographic of 91% Caucasian, 2% Black, 2% Asian, 2% Two or more races, 2% Hispanic or Latino, and 1% Native American. Mahtomedi competes in the Metro East Conference, having joined that conference at its inception in 2001 soon after being a founding member of the Metro Alliance in 1997. Prior to 1997, Mahtomedi was a member of the Tri-Metro Conference.

Washington High School is the rural public high school in Washington, Iowa. It is a member of the Washington Community School District. The building was built in 1918 and is still currently used. Construction of a new building conjoined with the existing junior high began in July 2010 with an estimated completion date set for Fall 2012, 96 years after the opening of the present structure. The school runs on block schedule with 4, 86-minute blocks. The year is divided up into 4 Academic terms. The average graduating class is around 110 students.
