Waheed Yar Khan (born 9 November 1942, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) is a former cricketer who played first-class cricket in India from 1960 to 1968, and in Pakistan from 1969 to 1975.

Career in India

A batsman, Waheed Yar Khan represented South Zone Schools in the Cooch Behar Trophy from 1957-58 to 1959-60, captaining the team to victory in 1959-60. He then represented Osmania University in the Rohinton Baria Trophy from 1960-61 to 1964-65. [1]

The Cooch Behar Trophy is India's national cricket tournament for under-19 players. It has been held annually since the 1945-46 season.

The All-India Inter-University Cricket Championship held for the Rohinton Baria Gold Trophy is India's premier inter-university cricket tournament. It has been contested annually since the 1935/36 season.

He made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy in 1960-61, and played occasionally over the next three seasons. When Hyderabad reached the finals in 1964-65 he made 67 not out in the quarter-final, 109 (his first century) in the semi-final, and was Hyderabad's top-scorer in the final with 78 and 23 when they lost to Bombay. [2] He played one match for South Zone, when they were skittled for 62 by a West Indian attack led by Charlie Griffith in 1966-67. He did not score another century until he made 174 not out for Hyderabad against Andhra in 1968-69, when he added 258 for the fourth wicket with Kenia Jayantilal. [3]

The Hyderabad cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, run by the Hyderabad Cricket Association. It is part of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group and has seen scattered success over its many years in the Ranji Trophy circuit. It falls into the South Zone in the Duleep Trophy. Over its long history in the Ranji Trophy it has won twice and come runner up three times and has made one appearance in the Irani Trophy.

Ranji Trophy

The Ranji Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between teams representing regional and state cricket associations. The competition currently consists of 37 teams, with all 29 states in India and two of the seven union territories having at least one representation. The competition is named after first Indian cricketer who played international cricket, Ranjitsinhji, who was also known as 'Ranji'.

Career in Pakistan

In 1969 he followed his parents, who had moved to Pakistan. He was immediately selected to play for Karachi Whites and Pakistan International Airlines.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cricket team are a first-class cricket side sponsored by the national flag carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and based in Karachi. They have won the Qaid-i-Azam Trophy more times than anyone else.

He had his best season in Pakistan in 1970-71 when he scored 342 runs in five matches at an average of 68.40, including 116 not out for Pakistan International Airlines B against National Bank. [4] His last century came in 1972-73 when he made 119 for PIA against Lahore B. [5]

National Bank of Pakistan cricket team, sponsored by the National Bank of Pakistan, is a first-class cricket side, one of the most successful in Pakistani domestic cricket. They have won each of the three major trophies at least once and have achieved 14 tournament wins in total.

Lahore teams, representing the city of Lahore, have competed in Pakistan's first-class cricket tournaments since 1958–59. They also compete in the national 50-over and Twenty-20 tournaments as the Lahore Lions.

He lives in retirement in Margate, Florida, with his wife, Rehana. [6]

Abdul Ahad Khan is a former cricketer. A leg-spin bowler for the Pakistan Railways cricket team, he achieved some remarkable figures in domestic first-class cricket.

Devraj Devendraraj Govindraj is a former fast bowler who played first-class cricket in India from 1964-65 to 1974-75. He toured the West Indies in 1970-71 and England in 1971, but did not play Test cricket.

1964–65 Ranji Trophy
