La Romana is a municipality and capital of the southeastern province of La Romana, opposite Catalina Island. It is one of the 10 largest cities in the Dominican Republic with a population estimated in 2010 at 130,426 within the city limits, of whom 127,623 are urban and 2,803 are rural. The name Romana comes from the word "Bomana", a name given by Indians to what is known today as Romana River.

Brenda Castillo is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic and plays as a libero. She was a member of the Dominican Republic national team that won fifth place in the 2012 Summer Olympics, while she was named the tournament's Best Libero. She played in the 2014 World Championship reaching also the fifth place and ranking 17th in the 2010 World Championship and the 2011 FIVB World Cup where her national team ranked eight and the 2015 FIVB World Cup, winning the Best Libero individual award and ranking in seventh place.
Yuderqui Maridalia Contreras, also known as Yudelkis Contreras, is a Dominican Republican weightlifter. She went to the 2008 Summer Olympics where she was 5th. After the Games, she was accused of failing a doping control, but the case ended with her name cleared. She was one of the two athletes that represented her home country in weightlifting at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She failed her three attempts in the snatch stage ending with no mark.

José Agustín Silvestre de los Santos, also known as José Silvestre and by his nickname "Gajo", was a television host of the show "La Voz de la Verdad" for Caña TV and a magazine publisher of the same title in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Silvestre was killed because of his reporting about drug trafficking and not government retribution. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Silvestre was the third journalist murdered in the Dominican Republic since 1992.
Yenebier Adelina Guillén Benítez is a Dominican boxer who competes as a 75 kilogram middleweight, Pan American Champion and Female Boxer in 2013 and silver medal at the 2011 Pan American Games. She also won the gold medal at the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championship, 2013 Bolivarian Games and 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Cristina Altagracia Lizardo Mézquita is a politician and academic from the Dominican Republic. She was Senator for the province of Santo Domingo from 2006 to 2020. Lizardo became the first woman to preside the Senate and the Congress of the Dominican Republic. She has a degree in education from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.
Eloy Vargas is a Dominican professional basketball player for Trotamundos de Carabobo of the SPB. He started his collegiate basketball career at Florida, and finished it at Kentucky, and represents the Dominican national team in international competition.
José Eugenio Vásquez de Jesús is a judoka from the Dominican Republic, who competed in the men's heavyweight category. He picked up a total of fifteen medals in his career, including a bronze from the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, attained a fifth-place finish in the 100-kg division at the 2003 Pan American Games in his native Santo Domingo, and represented his nation Dominican Republic in both 100 and over-100 kg class in two editions of the Olympic Games.
Brayelin Elizabeth Martínez is a Dominican volleyball player who won the bronze medal in the 2015 Pan American Games as a member of the Dominican Republic national team. She played in the 2014 Senior World Championship and the 2011 and 2015 FIVB World Cup.
Natasha Méndez Bonelly is a professional triathlete, athlete and road cyclist from the Dominican Republic. She won the Dominican Republic National Time Trial Championships in 2016.
Marileidy Paulino is a Dominican athlete sprinter specializing in the 400 meters. She won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first woman from the Dominican Republic to earn an individual Olympic medal in athletics. Paulino took silver at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. At these competitions, she earned also silver and gold in the mixed 4×400 m relay respectively, running legs of 48.7 s in 2021 and 48.47 s in 2022. Since May 2023, Paulino is the 400 m ranked world No. 1.
