Wangu Gome (born 13 February 1993) is a Namibian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Ongos Valley and the Namibia national team. He is known for his diminutive size [2] [3] and midfield capabilities. [4] [5]

Career

Club

Following his performance at the 2015 COSAFA Cup, Bidvest Wits F.C. signed the young midfielder on a one-season loan. [6] He made his league debut for Bidvest Wits F.C. in a 0-1 victory over University of Pretoria F.C. [7] Originally on loan, Bidvest Wits F.C. decided to extend his contract to long-term in 2016. [8] Recently, he has had continuous inactivity, not making the squad against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League. [9] [10] Made his CAF Champions League debut for The Clever Boys fronting Light Stars FC. [3]

His first trophy was the MTN 8 cup. [11]

On 2 March 2020, Gome signed for Armenian Premier League club FC Alashkert. [12] On 24 December 2022, Alashkert announced the departure of Gome. [13]

International

Namibian Wangu Gome was given the 2015 COSAFA Cup Player of the tournament award by being Namibia's key player throughout the entire tournament. [5]

The 2018–19 season was Alashkert's seventh season in the Armenian Premier League and twelfth overall. Alashkert were defending Premier League champions, having won the title the previous three seasons. Domestically, Alashkert finished the season in fourth place, whilst winning the Armenian Cup and Armenian Supercup for the first time in their history, earning themselves qualification to the UEFA Europa League for the 2019–20 season. In Europe, Alashkert were knocked out of the Champions League by Celtic in the first qualifying round, and by CFR Cluj in the third qualifying round in the Europa League.

The 2018–19 season was Lori FC's first season in the Armenian Premier League since their reestablishment in March 2017. They finished the season 5th in the league and were runners up to Alashkert in the Armenian Cup.

The 2019–20 season was Alashkert's eighth season in the Armenian Premier League and thirteenth overall. After the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Armenia, Alashkert finished third in the League, reached the quarterfinals of the Armenian Cup and were runners-up in the Armenian Supercup. In Europe Alashkert were knocked out of the Europa League in the second qualifying round by FCSB.

The 2020–21 season was Alashkert's ninth season in the Armenian Premier League and fourteenth overall. Alashkert finished the season as Champions for the first time since 2017–18. Alashkert where also Runners Up in the Armenian Cup and where knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Renova at the first qualifying round.
