Southern hip hop, also known as Southern rap, South Coast hip hop, or dirty south, is a blanket term for a regional genre of American hip hop music that emerged in the Southern United States, especially in Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Florida—often titled “The Big 5,” five states which constitute the "Southern Network" in rap music.
Jordan Michael Houston III, known professionally as Juicy J, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he is a founding member of the Southern hip hop group Three 6 Mafia, established in 1991. He released ten studio albums with the group, which began as an underground act until attaining mainstream recognition and signing with Loud Records, an imprint of Columbia Records in 2000. The group's 2005 single, "Stay Fly", yielded their furthest commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. That same year, they recorded the song "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp" for the film Hustle & Flow, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Drop the Beat was a Canadian television series produced by Back Alley Film Productions, which aired on CBC Television in 2000 and 2001. A short-run dramatic series, the show was one of the first television series in the world centred around hip hop music and culture.
Patrick Lamark Hawkins, better known by his stage name Fat Pat, was an American rapper from Houston, Texas, who was a member of DEA with his brother John "Big Hawk" Hawkins, DJ Screw, and Kay-K, all original members of the Screwed Up Click (S.U.C.).
The Screwed Up Click is an American hip hop collective based in Houston, Texas, that was led by DJ Screw. Its most notable members include DJ Screw, Big Hawk, Big Mello, Big Moe, Big Pokey, the Botany Boyz, E.S.G., Fat Pat, Lil' Flip, Lil' Keke, Lil' O, and Z-Ro. In addition, Devin the Dude, K-Rino, Lil' Troy, South Park Mexican and UGK are considered to be "Screwed Up Affiliated". Many of the current and former SUC members come from the neighborhoods of South Park, 3rd Ward, Sunnyside, Cloverland, Hiram Clarke and South Acres.
John Edward Hawkins, better known by his stage names Big Hawk and H.A.W.K., was an American rapper from Houston, Texas and a founding member of the late DJ Screw's rap group the Screwed Up Click.
Cedric Dormaine Hill better known by his stage name E.S.G. is an American rapper from Houston, Texas, and is a member of the Screwed Up Click. He helped to popularize the "Chopped and Screwed" style of rap music. His debut album Ocean of Funk was released in 1994 and it contained the popular single "Swangin' & Bangin'", which would later be remixed in his follow-up Sailin' Da South. He has released 11 other albums since then. He is also credited with writing the hook for "Wanna be a Baller" on Lil Troy's album Sittin' Fat Down South.

Throwed in da Game is the second studio album by the American rapper Fat Pat, released in 1998. Like Ghetto Dreams, Throwed in da Game was a posthumous release. The album peaked at No. 40 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart.
Sittin' Fat Down South is the debut studio album by American rapper Lil' Troy. It was released by Lil Troy and Master P's former manager, Tobin "TC" Costen on June 23, 1998 under Short Stop/ Me & Mine Entertainment. A few months later he signed to Universal and re-released the album worldwide on May 18, 1999. The album was produced by Bruce "Grim" Rhodes and certified Platinum on October 12, 1999 by the RIAA with over 1.9 million copies sold in America. It features the hit "Wanna Be a Baller".

Lil' O is a Nigerian-American rapper, raised in Southwest Houston, Texas. He is an original member of DJ Screw's Screwed Up Click. He was also known as O or Da Fat Rat Wit Da Cheeze. His name references his height, at 5 feet tall.

It features guest appearances from Big Pokey, Chamillionaire, Chris Ward, C-Note, Devin the Dude, E. Martin, Fat Pat, Jimmy D of 713, Lil' Keke, Lil' O, Mike D, Paul Wall, Scooby of Grit Boys, Slim Thug, Trae tha Truth & Wayne "PZ" Perry.

Ghetto Dreams is the debut solo studio album by American rapper Fat Pat of Screwed Up Click. It was released on March 17, 1998 through Wreckshop Records, making it his first posthumous release following his death on February 3, 1998. Recording sessions took place at J2 Recording Studio in his hometown of Houston, Texas. Production was handled by Double D, Noke D, Sean "Solo" Jemison, Prowler, Big Swift and J Slash, with D-Reck serving as executive producer. It features guest appearances from Big Hawk, Big Moe, Big Pokey, Big Steve, Billy Cook, C-Note, Corey-B, Double D, Lil' Keke, Mike D, Ronnie Spencer, Sean Pymp & Tyte Eyes. The album peaked at number 39 on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and number 19 on the Top Heatseekers, supported by a single "Tops Drop", which made it to #10 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.
Quavious Keyate Marshall, better known by his stage name Quavo, is an American rapper, singer, and record producer. He is best known as the frontman of the now-defunct hip hop group Migos. Formed with his nephew Takeoff and their mutual friend Offset in 2008, the group released four commercially successful studio albums before disbanding in 2023.
Bruce “Grim” Rhodes, also known as Beathoven, is an American record producer, mixing engineer, and entrepreneur. He has produced albums for and overseen the careers of many Southern rappers. His contribution to rap dates back to DJing on 8Ball & MJG's debut album Comin' Out Hard, and the debut of Scarface. He produced "Wanna Be A Baller" and the entire Sittin' Fat Down South album for Lil' Troy.
