Ward Parkway Center, Ward Parkway Mall, or Ward Parkway Shopping Center is a shopping center located in Kansas City, Missouri on the Kansas/Missouri border line. The location surrounds the area on the North from 85th Terrace to 89th Street on the South and on the West from State Line Road to Ward Parkway on the East. Once a two floor mall with a food court it now has one floor with the first floor enclosed. The mall itself is currently in a redevelopment phase and has been in business since 1959. Former stores Sam Goody, Gap, TGI Friday's, The Limited, and Winstead's. Ward Parkway Center is the location of the first modern movie multiplex, with its original two screens (since renovated and expanded to 14 screens) still operated by AMC Theatres. Originally a tiny two-screen theater located near Montgomery Ward, later expanded to the new complex.
Ward Parkway Center has been updated inside and out with evidence of more foot traffic despite expansion development and some empty storefronts.
Ward Parkway Center is set to develop the former Dillard's site — six years after the department store closed. In 2016, plans were approved for a 31,000-square-foot, U-shaped addition with six restaurant tenants and a pedestrian plaza, all on south end of the center. The tenants include Smitty's Garage, Torchy's Tacos, Charleston's Restaurant, Hawaiian Bros, and Hurts Donuts. The two middle buildings were expanded into 18,000 square feet with smaller tenants on either side. Buildings on the north and south end of the addition include patios.
Chick-fil-A has a pad site outside of Target fronting State Line Road.
In June 2023, Peter Piper Pizzeria, a fast-casual version of Peter Piper Pizza, opened at Ward Parkway Center, taking over the space of Hurts Donuts. Peter Piper Pizzeria would close in June 2024, with a Chuck E. Cheese opening at the space in August 2024. [1]
Chuck E. Cheese is an American entertainment restaurant chain founded on May 17, 1977 by Atari, Inc.'s co-founder Nolan Bushnell. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, each location features arcade games, amusement rides and musical shows in addition to serving pizza and other food items; former mainstays included ball pits, crawl tubes, and animatronic shows. The chain's name is taken from its main character and mascot, Chuck E. Cheese. The first location opened as Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre in San Jose, California. It was the first family restaurant to integrate food with arcade games and animated entertainment, thus being one of the pioneers for the "family entertainment center" concept.
The Country Club Plaza is a privately owned regional shopping center in the Country Club District of Kansas City, Missouri. Opened in 1923, it is considered to be the first planned large outdoor suburban shopping center in the United States and among the first regional centers to accommodate shoppers arriving by car.
WestShore Plaza is a shopping mall located in the Westshore business district of Tampa, Florida, developed by Albert L. Manley of Boston, MA. WestShore Plaza was opened in 1967 and was touted as Tampa's first shopping center that was fully air-conditioned. Parkway Parade is a suburban shopping centre in Marine Parade, Singapore. Officially opened in March 1984, it has a 22-floor office tower and a seven-storey shopping mall with a basement. Southland Center is an enclosed mall located at 23000 Eureka Road in Taylor, Michigan, exactly halfway between U.S. Highway 24 and the Interstate 75 freeway. The mall features Macy's, JCPenney, and Best Buy, in addition to a 12-screen stadium Cinemark Theatres. It is the newest of the Detroit area's original four "land" malls. Southland Center opened on July 20, 1970. It is owned and managed by Brookfield Properties, one of the largest mall owners in the United States.

Century Mall was an indoor shopping mall located on the southeast corner of Broadway and US 30 in Merrillville, Indiana, United States. The mall opened in 1979 with anchor stores Goldblatt's and Montgomery Ward. Competitive and economic factors sent the mall into steady decline and national retail chains left throughout the 1990s until the mall was ultimately sold for redevelopment in 2001 then closed and largely demolished in 2002. The mall's interior stores also suffered following Montgomery Ward's remodeling. Montgomery Ward removed their mall entrance and told customers that no stores remained, when in reality close to a dozen stores were still open. A strip mall development named Century Plaza now occupies the land and some of the former anchor store buildings.
Capital Plaza Mall was a shopping mall located at the intersection of Annapolis Road and the Baltimore–Washington Parkway in Landover Hills, Maryland. It was built between 1961 and 1963, as a regional shopping center to serve the Bladensburg and Landover area of suburban Washington, D.C. The mall was a major attraction in Prince George's County, until its slow decline that began in the 1970s. This continued until the mall's closure in 2005, and ultimately its demolition in 2007. Part of the grounds are now occupied by a Wal-Mart store.
