L.A. Woman is the sixth studio album by the American rock band the Doors, released on April 19, 1971, by Elektra Records. It is the last to feature lead singer Jim Morrison during his lifetime due to his death three months after the album's release, though he would posthumously appear on the 1978 album An American Prayer. Even more so than its predecessors, the album is heavily influenced by blues. It was recorded without record producer Paul A. Rothchild after he fell out with the group over the perceived lack of quality of their studio performances. Subsequently, the band co-produced the album with longtime sound engineer Bruce Botnick.
"Suffragette City" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. It was originally released in April 1972 as the B-side of the single "Starman" and subsequently appeared on his fifth studio album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972). The song was later reissued as a single in 1976, with the US single edit of "Stay" as the B-side, to promote the compilation album Changesonebowie in the UK. Co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott, it was recorded by Bowie at Trident Studios in London with his backing band the Spiders from Mars, consisting of Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey, at a late stage of the album's sessions. The song was originally offered to English band Mott the Hoople, who declined it and recorded Bowie's "All the Young Dudes" instead. It is a glam rock song that is influenced by the music of Little Richard and the Velvet Underground. The lyrics include a reference to Anthony Burgess' novel A Clockwork Orange and the famous lyric "Oooohh Wham Bam, Thank you, Ma'am".
"Water Runs Dry" is a 1995 single by Boyz II Men for the Motown label, written and produced by Babyface. The single, the fourth released from the album II, reached number two in the United States and number four in the Canada. It also contains a version of the group's previous number one hit from the same album, "I'll Make Love to You". A Spanish version, "No dejemos que muera el amor", was also recorded and peaked at number 10 on the US Latin Pop Airplay chart.
Peter Gene Hernandez, known professionally as Bruno Mars, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is known for his stage performances, retro showmanship, and for performing in a wide range of musical styles, including pop, R&B, funk, soul, reggae, disco, and rock. Mars is accompanied by his band, the Hooligans, who play a variety of instruments, such as electric guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums, and horns, and also serve as backup singers and dancers.
American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars has released three studio albums, one collaborative studio album, one EP, 32 singles and four promotional singles. With estimated sales of over 26 million albums and 200 million singles worldwide, Mars is one of the best-selling artists of all time. Six of his singles are among the best-selling singles of all time: in order of release date, "Just the Way You Are", "Grenade", "The Lazy Song", "When I Was Your Man", "Uptown Funk" and "That's What I Like". According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), he has sold 91.5 million copies in the United States. His first two albums have sold 5.04 million copies in the US alone. In 2012, Mars was named 2011's best selling music artist worldwide. In 2022, he became the first artist to receive six diamond certified songs in the United States.
Purling Hiss is the rock music project of American multi-instrumentalist Mike Polizze. Based in Philadelphia, the project was named so because of its heavy use of distortion and white noise. Originally conceived for his own personal amusement and desire to experiment, Polizze eventually self-released Purling Hiss (2009) and began touring with a live band.
Purling Hiss is the eponymously titled debut studio album of Purling Hiss, released independently in 2009. Permanent Records adopted the album and issued it on vinyl and repressed and re-issued it in 2014. Evan Minsker of Pitchfork Media called the album "a monster of blown-out, shredding, heavy psych music that consistently locks into a satisfying groove."
Hissteria is the second studio album by Purling Hiss, released on September 28, 2010 by Richie Records. The album continued to explore the abrasive guitar noise of the debut across extended tracks.
Public Service Announcement is the third studio album by Purling Hiss, released on October 12, 2010, by Woodsist.
Lounge Lizards is an EP by Purling Hiss, released on June 14, 2011 by Mexican Summer.
Dizzy Polizzy is a compilation album by Purling Hiss, released independently in 2011.
Paisley Montage is a compilation album by Purling Hiss, released independently in 2011. Before being re-issued by Richie Records in 2013, it was distributed on Compact Cassette by the band during their 2011 tour. In his review for Pitchfork Media, Marc Masters said the album "indulges nicely in Polizze’s preferred tropes-- heavy guitar and a simple, lurching beat-- but eventually descends into an aural madness of searing distortion, echoing voices, and dislocated finger snaps."
Weirdon is the fifth studio album by Purling Hiss, released on September 23, 2014 by Drag City.
Vol. 1 is the debut studio album of Birds of Maya, released on January 21, 2008 by Holy Mountain. The album comprises home recordings made between 2004 and 2006.
High Bias is the sixth studio album by Purling Hiss, released on October 14, 2016, by Drag City.
