Waymon Alridge (born March 30, 1960) is a former professional Canadian football wide receiver and slotback who played for the Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Rough Riders, and Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). From 1983 to 1986, Alridge played in 29 regular season games, mostly with the Rough Riders. He made 95 catches for 1,674 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns over the course of his career. [1] He played college football for the UNLV Rebels of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Professional career

In 1983, Alridge played two regular season games for the Calgary Stampeders. He recorded eight catches for 152 yards and one touchdown in his rookie season. [1]

Alridge took a more prominent role after moving to the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1984, where he began the season as a slotback. [2] In a week 3 win against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Alridge caught one pass for 75 yards and another for 90 yards. [3] His performance in that game led The Globe and Mail to describe him as "the newest Rider star". [4] After the Rough Riders traded wide receiver Tyron Gray to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Alridge was moved to the wide receiver position. [2] Playing in 13 regular season games, he finished the 1984 season with 700 receiving yards on 36 catches with five touchdowns. [1]

In 1985, Alridge started as a wide receiver for the Rough Riders. [5] In a week 3 contest against the Edmonton Eskimos, Alridge caught two touchdown passes. [6] Alridge suffered from injuries in the second half of the season, including a concussion and a foot injury. [7] [8] He recorded 49 catches for 797 yards and four touchdowns in 1985 over the course of 13 games. [1]

Immediately before the start of the regular season in 1986, the Rough Riders traded Alridge to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to receive running back Glenn Steele. [9] He never played in a regular season game for the Blue Bombers. Alridge eventually was signed by the Edmonton Eskimos in 1986, where he played a single regular season game, making two catches. Gerald Alan Alphin is a former professional gridiron football wide receiver and slotback who played eight seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1986 to 1996, mainly for the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Alphin played college football at Kansas State University. Alphin recorded four 1,000-yard receiving seasons, including a period of three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons with the Rough Riders during which he was considered one of the best receivers playing in the CFL. He was named an East all-star in 1988.

Calvin McCarty is a former professional Canadian football running back who last played for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played as a tailback until 2014, when he became the starting fullback for the Edmonton Eskimos. McCarty is known for being able to fill many roles at his position, with TSN sportscaster Chris Schultz noting in 2010 that he is a "multi-purpose running back who catches the ball extremely well, blocks well and runs well". He is a champion of the 103rd Grey Cup.

The 103rd Grey Cup was a Canadian football game that was played on November 29, 2015 between the East Division champion Ottawa Redblacks and the West Division champion Edmonton Eskimos to decide the Canadian Football League (CFL) championship for the 2015 season. The game was played at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shaw Communications was the presenting sponsor of the game; it was the first time in CFL history that the Grey Cup has been sponsored. The Eskimos won the contest 26–20 to claim their 14th Grey Cup championship in franchise history and first since 2005. Mike Reilly was named Most Valuable Player and Shamawd Chambers received the Dick Suderman Trophy as Most Valuable Canadian. It was the Eskimos' first Grey Cup win that did not involve Hugh Campbell in any capacity with the organization since the 1975 Grey Cup. This was Edmonton's last Grey Cup under the "Eskimos" name before the team name was changed to the Edmonton Elks in 2020.

Stephen Jones is a former American football wide receiver who played ten seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Edmonton Eskimos and Ottawa Rough Riders. He played college football at Central Michigan University. Jones was a member of the Edmonton Eskimos team that won the 75th Grey Cup. He was also a two-time CFL All-Star and three-time CFL East All-Star.

Michael Allen is a former Canadian football defensive back who played seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Ottawa Rough Riders and BC Lions. He was drafted by the Blue Bombers in the fourth round of the 1988 CFL Draft. He played at Bemidji State University, Division II NCAA in Bemidji, Minnesota, USA in 1984. He then transferred to CIS football at Carleton University in 1986. Allen won three Grey Cup championships, two with the Blue Bombers and one with the Lions.

Ted Alford is a former professional gridiron football wide receiver. After playing college football at Langston University, he played for seven teams in the Canadian Football League (CFL), including the Edmonton Eskimos, BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, and Calgary Stampeders. In his rookie season with the BC Lions, Alford became a consistent starter and was nominated for the Most Outstanding Rookie award. He spent the next several years moving from team to team, playing in only 8 CFL games from 1997 through 2000.
