We're No Heroes (often abbreviated WNH) are a three-piece band from Cardiff, Wales, composed of Tom Collins, Michael Owen, and Luke Llewellyn. They first formed in the summer of 2009 at a downtown South Side recording studio in Chicago, US. [1]
Their debut record Crossing Over was a demo released for free in February 2010 in the UK and the US. The band's debut EP, Quiet Colours, was recorded late February 2011 and released on 15 June. [2] [3]
Their music influences are widely varied due to the different musical backgrounds of the members. However, they have been said to have a funky take on angular ’80s indie and zeitgeist-snaring math rock, [4] playing spot on angular fast paced guitar tunes, [5] which have been compared to other bands such as A Certain Ratio, Spandau Ballet, Gang Of Four, and The Whitest Boy Alive, to name a few.
In mid 2009, the band started writing and recording for a limited edition demo EP, originally writing 12 new songs, of which only six made the officially released version. The Demo EP titled Crossing Over (inspired by their journey across the US) was completely self-produced, recorded and released through their own studio called Quarter Studios in Langland Bay, Wales.
The band released Crossing Over as a free download along with the lead single "Life Out Loud". Tom has stated multiple times during various interviews that although they were happy with their work, their identity and sound was not yet fully realized. [6] [ failed verification ] The album was a commercial success in their local area of the United Kingdom, with large download numbers and highly praised reviews across the board.[ citation needed ]
On 20 November 2010, We're No Heroes signed to At Your Own Risk, a five-year strong indie label established in Cardiff. [7]
On 6 January 2012, the band was named as one of the top Welsh bands predicted to make a stir in 2012 by Wales Online & The Echo News paper. [8]
In February 2011, the band entered Ripefruit Recording Studio to start work on their second EP, Quiet Colours.[ citation needed ] The record was produced by Jordan Andrews [ citation needed ] and mastered at Hafod Mastering Studio. [9] The EP was released worldwide on 15 June 2011. [10]
In June 2012, the three piece released a single titled "Ghost Coast" accompanied by the b side "Aerials". It was a slight departure from their indie techno infusion and leaned towards sounds grounded in funk and 1980s new wave music. [11]
In October 2012, We're No Heroes played Swn Festival alongside acts such as Egyptian Hip Hop, Pulled Apart By Horses, Django Django and many more. [12]
In January 2013, the band released a single titled "Distort The Air", that lead to worldwide support and national attention of their music from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio Wales, Topshop playlists and since have appeared on bills alongside bands such as Catfish and the Bottlemen, Peace, Tall Ships, Dutch Uncles, Public Service Broadcasting, Tribes, Chlöe Howl, Tom Odell, The Amazons and many more.
In 2014, WNH signed to Spiral Icon and released the EP, SHIVER, followed by a full national tour, support slots on Peace's UK tour and multiple national and international airplay including that of BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music again. [13]
In July 2015, We're No Heroes had been selected as BBC Artist Of The Week in Wales and released a new single and music video titled "Voodoo" on 31 July, followed by a national tour. [14]
As of February 2016, We're No Heroes were signed as one of BBC Horizons project Artists leading to a national tour of major festival slots. [15]
In January 2017, the band entered Maida Vale Studios to record live sessions for BBC Radio 1. [16] On 1 September 2017, "Youth" was released as a new single.

Catatonia were an alternative rock band from Wales who gained popularity in the mid-to-late 1990s. The band formed in 1992 after Mark Roberts met Cerys Matthews and Kirsty Kennedy. The first major lineup featured Dafydd Ieuan of Super Furry Animals on drums, Paul Jones on bass, and Clancy Pegg on keyboards. With this line-up the band recorded two EPs, For Tinkerbell and Hooked.
Guto Dafydd Pryce is a Welsh musician best known as bass guitar player and songwriter in the band Super Furry Animals.

The Automatic was a Welsh rock band. The band's last-known lineup was composed of Robin Hawkins on vocals, bass and synthesisers, James Frost on guitar, synthesisers, backing vocals and occasional bass, Iwan Griffiths on drums and Paul Mullen on vocals, guitar and synthesiser. Mullen joined after the departure of Alex Pennie, who provided synthesiser, percussion and vocals.

Kids in Glass Houses are a Welsh rock band from Cardiff. The band's name was inspired by the lyrics "not throwing stones at you anymore" from the Glassjaw song "Tip Your Bartender". The band achieved success on the strength of the singles "Give Me What I Want" and "Saturday" off their debut album Smart Casual in 2008. The band released their second album Dirt in early 2010, releasing four singles, most notably "Matters at All". The band's third album, In Gold Blood, was released on 15 August 2011. Their fourth album, Peace, was released on 30 September 2013. The band announced their split in January 2014 and played their final show at Cardiff's Great Hall on October 31, 2014. The band announced their reunion on August 30, 2022.
Derwyddon Dr Gonzo were a Welsh-language funk and ska band from Llanrug, North Wales. Having reached number one in Siart C2, their music has received airplay on BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio 1 and Serbian radio. The band performed regularly on the Welsh language scene circuit, in addition to larger festivals such as Latitude Festival, Wakestock, Sŵn, Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau and Maes B at the National Eisteddfod. Their second EP, Chaviach/Bwthyn was released on the Copa Label in 2008. On 27 July 2009 the band released their second album, Stonk!, on the Copa label, and recorded at the Wings for Jesus Studio in Cardiff by Sir Doufus Styles.
Young Guns are an English alternative rock band from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The members, working with each other in various musical interests throughout the 2000s, formally formed the band in 2008, and rose to prominence after their debut EP, Mirrors, earned them spots opening live shows for Bon Jovi and Guns N' Roses. Their debut album, All Our Kings Are Dead, on 12 July 2010. Their second album, Bones, was released in February 2012. Their single "Bones" reached no. 1 on the Billboard Active Rock charts in the US in May 2013. Their third album, Ones and Zeros, was released on 9 June 2015. The band's fourth album, Echoes, was released on 16 September 2016.
Al Lewis is a Welsh singer and songwriter. He became known in the Welsh language media after his song came second in the Cân i Gymru contest in 2007.

Rob Lear is a Welsh-based singer-songwriter. He began his career as the principal songwriter and lead singer of Welsh bands Lear and the Proud Marys. An early solo performance came supporting Rue Royale on 27 January 2013 in the venue 10 Feet Tall, Cardiff.
Islet are a Welsh band formed in Cardiff in 2009. They are known for their experimental, genre-defying sound and energetic live shows. Their music takes in elements of experimental rock, psychedelic pop, no wave, krautrock and post-punk.
Shy and The Fight were a seven-piece Welsh acoustic folk / indie rock band from Llangollen, Wales and Chester, England. The band included Tom Hyndman, Carrie Anderson, Christopher Done, Michael Deponeo, Tom Wootton (drums), Samuel Williams (drums) and Jackson Almond.
Winter and Williams Band are an alternative acoustic band from Cardiff, Wales, which formed in 2006. Trwbador were a Welsh duo who occupied a place in the musical landscape between folk and techno. The two-piece resided in Carmarthenshire, although they began working together while at University in Newport. Trwbador's original sound has established them as a forerunner of the Welsh music scene.

Sŵnami are a Welsh indie rock group from Dolgellau, north-west Wales, who sing predominantly in Welsh. They won the Welsh Language Album of the Year prize at the 2016 National Eisteddfod of Wales. Their name is a play on the word 'tsunami' and the Welsh word for sound, "Sŵn", to convey the idea of a wave of sound.
Horizons is an arts scheme and music festival launched jointly in 2014 by BBC Cymru Wales and the Arts Council of Wales to develop new independent contemporary music artists. It is curated by BBC presenter Bethan Elfyn.
Adwaith (transl. Reaction) are a Welsh language indie rock group from Carmarthen in West Wales, formed in 2015. The group consists of Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony and Heledd Owen (drums). Signed to Libertino Records, they released their first album Melyn in 2018. Both Melyn and its follow-up Bato Mato (2022) won Welsh Music Prize awarded for the best album from Wales, making Adwaith the first act to receive the award twice.
