We Are Twisted Fucking Sister! is a 2014 German-US documentary about the early years of heavy metal band Twisted Sister directed by Andrew Horn.
Through interviews, filmmaker Andrew Horn traces the history of Twisted Sister from their origins in the bar scene of early 1970s Long Island to their pre-MTV rise as a popular regional, New York-based band in the mid 1970s and early 1980s. [1]
Horn became acquainted with the band when he made his previous documentary, The Nomi Song . Though he was not a fan, he found the band to be interesting and entertaining. [1]
In 2014, Dee Snider endorsed the documentary and its Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for distribution. [2] We Are Twisted Fucking Sister! premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam on November 30, 2014. [1] Band member Jay Jay French attended the premiere. [3] A preview fundraiser was held at a club in Ferndale, Michigan, on January 9, 2015. [1]

Daniel Snider is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the heavy metal band Twisted Sister. The band's song "We're Not Gonna Take It" reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and was ranked No. 47 on 100 Greatest 80's Songs. Snider later formed and was the lead singer in the heavy metal bands Desperado, Widowmaker, and SMFs. He also released several solo albums. Louis Sarno was an American adventurer, recordist and author. In the mid-1980s until about 2016 he made field recordings of the music of a Bayaka (BaAka) "pygmy" forest people while living among them in the Central African Republic. The recordings are now held by the Pitt-Rivers museum at Oxford University, UK, and Wild Sanctuary, an archive of indigenous music, stories and natural soundscapes. Sarno lived in the CAR for more than 30 years, and held a dual citizenship there and in the United States. He documented some of his experiences in his memoir, Song from the Forest: My Life Among the Pygmies (1993), which Geoff Wisner included in his survey work A Basket of Leaves: 99 Books That Capture the Spirit of Africa. In the late 1990s two albums, Music of the Bayaka, Volume I and II, produced by Bernie Krause were released under Wild Sanctuary, an archive that holds additional music and natural soundscape recordings by Sarno.
