Wedson Nyirenda (born 23 November 1966) is a Zambian football manager and former player.

Playing career

Nyirenda played as a forward for Nchanga Rangers and Power Dynamos in the MTN/FAZ Super Division. [1]

In 1993, he played for Kaizer Chiefs. [2]

Managerial career

Nyirenda coached at Zesco United and Zanaco. [3]

Nyirenda was the head coach of the men's senior Zambia national team having been appointed permanently in January 2017. [1] He resigned in May 2018. [4]

He was involved in the management of the Zambian Under-20 team that won both the Cosafa Under-20 Championship in South Africa and the African Youth Championship. [5]

He presided over the tail end of Zambia's senior national team 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, where they finished second in a group containing traditional heavyweights Nigeria, Algeria, and Cameroon. [6]

He led Zambia at the African Nations Championships (CHAN) finals. Under his management, the team beat Ivory Coast to top their group. [7] In the quarterfinal, they were upset by Sudan but were praised as having played "an attractive style of football". [8]

In April 2018, he was one of 77 applicants for the vacant Cameroon national team job. [9] In May 2018, he became the head coach of Baroka F.C. [10] Later on, he was appointed as the manager of Lusaka Dynamos in July 2020. [11]

Zanaco Football Club was formed in 1978 as a social team by management trainees of Zambia National Commercial Bank. The team was launched at LOTUS INN in Lusaka. The founding members were Lloyd Choongo, Ben Banda, Nathan Lupupa and John Kasengele. Starting from the 1980s, Zanaco started growing steadily from a mere social club to becoming one of the most successful and decorated club in Zambian football history. Over the years the Sunset Stadium-based team has won 7 Super League trophies, 4 Charity Shields, 1 Coca-Cola Cup, 1 Mosi Cup and 3 BP Cups. Zanaco are the only team outside of Zambia's Copperbelt Province to have not only won but also defended the Super League Trophy.

Bamfuchile also coached Namibia and therefore coached and led two different teams to the African Cup of Nations; the Zambia national football team in the 2000 African Cup of Nations, and the Namibia national football team in 2008. He managed Namibia from 2006 until his death.

Patrice Neveu is a French football coach and former player who manages the national team of Gabon.

Patrick Phiri is a Zambian football coach and former footballer. He featured for Zambian clubs Rokana United and Red Arrows as a striker and represented Zambia at the 1978 and 1982 African Cup of Nations tournaments. As a coach, Phiri led the Zambia U-20 national team to its first ever appearance at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship in Nigeria and was voted Zambian Coach of the Year at the end of the year. He was also in charge of Zambia at the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana and has managed ten different club sides, with three of them more than once. He is currently in charge of Nakambala Leopards in the Zambian Premier League.
