West Jordan High School is a public high school located southwest of Salt Lake City in West Jordan, Utah. It enrolls around 1,800 students. [2]
The school opened in 1981 with an expected enrollment of 1,298. [3] The Jordan School District paid over $15 million (equivalent to $55.47 million in 2023) for the contract to build West Jordan High. [4]
In 2023, a former teacher from the school was charged by police with 19 felony counts including rape, forcible sexual abuse, and obstruction of justice. [5] [6] He is accused of raping a female student in his classroom multiple times. [7]
The men's varsity basketball team won the 2001 state championship, [8] as well as the 2009 State championship against Lone Peak High School, the two-time defending champion. [9]
West Jordan is well known for its music program. It has one of the largest choir programs of any public school in the state, [10] with a record enrollment of over 300 students. The band and orchestra programs also consistently score well in competitions. [11] [12]
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is a public community college in Salt Lake County, Utah. It is the state's largest two-year college with the most diverse student body. It serves more than 60,000 students on 10 campuses as well as through online classes. The college has a student to faculty ratio of 20:1. Since SLCC is a community college, it focuses on providing associate degrees that students can transfer to any other four-year university in the state to satisfy their first two years of requirements for a bachelor's degree.
