West Rome High School was an American public high school active from 1958 until 1992 in Rome, Georgia. [1] It was part of the Rome City School District, and was succeeded by Rome High School.
West Rome High School was a high school built in 1958. [1] Its school colors were kelly green, white, and silver. East Rome and West Rome High schools were combined to form Rome High School in 1992. [2]
West Rome was located at 2510 Redmond Circle. The West Rome Walmart now sits in the general area where West Rome Junior High School once stood. West Rome High was located where a Sam's Club stands now.[ citation needed ] West Rome High was a segregated all-white school until the Rome schools effected a desegregation plan in the late 1960s, transferring the students at all-black Main High School to West Rome and East Rome over a period of three years and closing Main High by 1970. The West Rome Chieftains won five state titles and thirteen regional titles. Four of the state championships were won consecutively from 1982 to 1985, setting a state record. That state record was tied in 2010 by Buford High School. [4] The Chieftains had 35 first-team all-state players and 60 all-state players. [5]
Three West Rome players later played in the NFL, including Eric Floyd. [6] [7]

Marcus Dwayne Dixon is an American football coach and a former defensive end in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He is the defensive line coach for the Denver Broncos. Dixon was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He played college football at Hampton University.
Norman Mack Van Brocklin, nicknamed "the Dutchman", was an American professional football player and coach who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons. He played quarterback, spending his first nine seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and his final three with the Philadelphia Eagles. Following his playing career, he was the inaugural head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 1961 to 1966 and the second head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 1968 to 1974.
Joey Matthew Browner is an American former professional football player who played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Minnesota Vikings from 1983 to 1991 and for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1992. Browner played college football for the USC Trojans.
Daniel Edward Reeves was an American football running back and coach in the National Football League (NFL). During his 38 years in the NFL, Reeves participated in nine Super Bowls, the third most for an individual. He was a head coach for 23 seasons, a position he held with the Denver Broncos from 1981 to 1992, the New York Giants from 1993 to 1996, and the Atlanta Falcons from 1997 to 2003. As a player, he spent his eight-season career with the Dallas Cowboys, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 1965.
Rickey Anderson Jackson is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the New Orleans Saints (1981–1993) and the San Francisco 49ers (1994–1995). He led the team's Dome Patrol linebacker corps while playing with the Saints. In 1997, Jackson was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame. Jackson won a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX one year before retiring. On February 7, 2010, Jackson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Willie James Buchanon is an American former football player who was a cornerback for the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He was defensive rookie of the year in 1972 and a two-time Pro Bowl player. He finished his career with his hometown San Diego Chargers, retiring with 28 career interceptions and 15 fumble recoveries.
Roswell High School (RHS) is a public high school in Roswell, Georgia, United States which opened in 1949. It serves the entire city of Roswell west of Georgia State Route 400 and the city of Mountain Park, as well as small portions of Alpharetta and Milton. Roswell High School neighbors both Fellowship Christian School and Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. It is also the second oldest of Fulton County's schools in the northern portion of the county, opening between Milton High School (1921), and Chattahoochee High School (1991). Roswell is currently on its third campus, which opened in 1990. The current building is the oldest in-use high school building in north Fulton.

He played for the University of Alabama from 1952 to 1954 and was selected as an All-SEC defensive back in 1952. He worked as an assistant football coach at several colleges, including the University of Georgia and University of Arkansas before receiving a head coaching assignment at Clemson University from 1970 to 1972. He was an administrator with the Southeastern Conference in the 1970s and later served as an athletic director at Florida State University (1981–89) and Alabama (1989–95).
Raymond Canute Donaldson is a former American football Center in the National Football League for the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at the University of Georgia.
George Floyd Jr. is an American former professional football player who was a defensive back for two seasons with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). Over his NFL career, Floyd appeared in ten games during the Jets' 1982 season, including three playoff games, and eight in their 1984 season, with two games started. Floyd retired after sustaining a knee injury in the 1985 NFL preseason.
Malcom Maiuu Floyd is a former American professional football player who was a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). He played his entire NFL career with San Diego after signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played college football for the Wyoming Cowboys.

Barron Stadium is a 6,500-seat football field and track & field stadium in Rome, Georgia. It is home to the Shorter University Hawks and Rome High School Wolves football teams. The facility hosted the NAIA Football National Championship from 2008-13 and the NCCAA Victory Bowl in 2013-14, as well as the NCCAA track championships from 2014-16.
Robert Randall Johnson is a former American football offensive guard who played two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Georgia and attended Pepperell High School in Lindale, Georgia. Johnson was a consensus All-American in 1975. He was also a member of the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
