He became the first tennis player ever, male or female, to win two Olympic singles gold medals. Murray and del Potro were only the third and fourth men to win multiple singles medals of any color. Murray's gold was Great Britain's fifth in men's singles, the most of any nation. Shingo Kunieda defeated Alfie Hewett in the final, 4–6, 7–5, 7–6(10–5) to win the gentlemen's singles wheelchair tennis title at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon singles title and record-extending 28th major singles title overall. With the win, Kunieda completed both a non-calendar year Grand Slam and the career Super Slam. Hewett served for the championship four times, but was broken all four times by Kunieda.
The men's singles wheelchair tennis tournament at the 2024 Paralympic Games in France will be held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris from 30 August to 7 September 2024.
