Daniel Javier Caverzaschi Arzola (born 11 July 1993) is a Spanish wheelchair tennis player. He represented Spain in 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics...
Caverzaschi was born on 11 July 1993 in Madrid, [1] missing most of his right leg from the knee down. [2] His family lived in Spain until he was two years old. They moved to United States "because of [his] father's job", for the next eight years. He spent most of his childhood in Miami, except for a year in Chicago. [3]
Caverzaschi has graduated in economics at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England. There he trained under coach Matt Thomas. At now, he trains at CAR Sant Cugat del Vallés, (Barcelona); and Ciudad de la Raqueta (Madrid).
He is sponsored by Vodafone, Madrid Tennis Federation, and Runnymede College, his "old school in Madrid", which provides him financial support. [3] His goal outside of sport is to become a banker. [4]
Caverzaschi is a left-handed wheelchair tennis player. [1] He started the sport when he was 12 years old. [1] His highest ever boys' singles rating was second, which he held in October 2011. [1] His best ever men's singles rating was 43, which he held in August 2012. [1] The 2007 Spanish Open was the first major tournament he competed in and reached to the quarter-finals of singles and the finals in the doubles. [1] In 2008, he was described as a rising start in Spanish wheelchair tennis. [5]
Caverzaschi did not compete in any ITF events in 2008, returning to ITF competition in June 2009 where he competed in the Open Internacional Ergosaude, where he made the quarter-finals in the singles and doubles events. The next month, he competed in the boys' wheelchair tennis event at the British Open, where he made the semifinals. He also competed in the 2009 Invacare World Team Cup — Juniors Event, Cruyff Foundation Junior Camp (Spain), Open Internacional Caja Duero and Nottingham Indoor Tournament. [1] [6] In 2010, he competed at the Cruyff Foundation Junior Masters, Invacare World Team Cup — Junior Event, Trofeo Della Mole, British Open, Memorial Oliver Puras — Caja de Burgos and Flanders Open. [1] [7] He made the finals of the boys' competition of the 2010 Trofeo Della Mole. In the men's category, he also made the final but had to abandon the game due to injury. [8] He was seeded number one in the event. [9] [10] He won the Master Nacional de Tenis en Silla de Ruedas Valencia Open 500 in 2010. [11]
In 2011, Caverzaschi competed in the Alpi Del Mare, South African Open, World Team Cup — Junior Event, Open Memorial Santi Silvas, Lleida Open, Wroclaw Cup, La Rioja International Open, Memorial Oliver Puras — Caja de Burgos, Ath Open, Trofeo Della Mole, International Open Villa de Getafe, Izmir Open, Bulgarian Open, and Esporta Cardiff. [1] [12] He beat Shelby Baron 6–2, 6–2 before partnering with Roberto Chamizo to beat the United States; Ryan Nelson and Baron 6–0, 6–3 in the juniors competition of the South African hosted 2011 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup. [13] His first-place finish at the Rioja International Open was the first of his career. [14] At the 2011 Trofeo Della Mole, he defeated Francesc Tur f 3–6, 6–3 and 10–4. [15]
In 2011, Caverzaschi obtained a five-year sponsorship deal with Vodafone as part of the phone company's attempt to sponsor developing athletes to enable them become elites in their sports. [16] [17] [18]
In 2012, Caverzaschi participated in the North West Challenge, Biel-Bienne Indoors, Open International Tennis Handisport, Northern Counties Wheelchair Tournament, Minas Open, Argentina Open, Open International Fundacion Emilio Sanchez Vicario Barcelona, Open International Fundacion Emilio Sanchez Vicario Madrid, Open Internacional Ciudad de A Coruña, International Open Villa de Pinto, Lleida Open, La Rioja International Open, Belgian Open, and Ath Open. [1] He won the Valencia Open 500 in 2012. [11] In Argentina, he reached the semifinals but was eliminated. [19] His final event of the year was the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where he went out in the round of 32 for the singles and the round of 16 for the doubles. [1]
In October 2013, he was the number one-ranked wheelchair tennis player in Spain, and twentieth in the world. [11] In October 2013, he competed in the Master Nacional de Tenis en Silla de Ruedas Valencia Open 500. [11]
During the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, he became the first Spanish paralympic tennis player to reach the quarterfinals. [20]

Bernabe Costas de Miranda is a professional wheelchair basketball player from Spain. As a member of Spain men's national wheelchair basketball team, he earned a bronze at the 2011 European Championships, and a fifth-place finish at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. He has spent most of his professional career playing for Aldasa Amfiv de Vigo in Spain's top level domestic wheelchair basketball league.

Alejandro Zarzuela Beltrán is a Spanish 3 point wheelchair basketball player. He has represented Spain as a member of the national team at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the U-23 European Championships. As a club wheelchair basketball player in Spain, he has played all but two seasons on the same team with his twin brother, Pablo. He has won several Copas del Rey, league championships and a European Champions League.

Jaume Llambi Riera is a wheelchair basketball player and table tennis player from Spain. A paraplegic as a result of a car accident when he was 8 years old, he went on to represent Spain at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in table tennis. He then switched sports to wheelchair basketball, making his national team debut in 1998. In 2012, he represented Spain in wheelchair basketball at the Paralympic Games in London where his team finished fifth.
Spain men's national wheelchair basketball team has represented Spain at the IWBF European Championships, IWBF World Championships and at the Paralympic Games. The team won a bronze at the 2013 European Championships. They finished fifth at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, and sixth at the 1992 Summer Paralympics. Spain also has a men's national under-22 team and under-23 team. The under-23 team finished second at the 2009 Paris European Championships.
Óscar Trigo Diez is a wheelchair basketball coach. He led the Spanish men's national team at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London.
Maria Dolores "Lola" Ochoa Ribes is a Spanish wheelchair tennis player. A paraplegic as a result of an accident when she was 14, she picked up tennis as a wheelchair player following it. She has gone on to represent Spain at the 2004 Summer Paralympics, 2008 Summer Paralympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics, and the 2013 World Championships. In 2013, she was ranked 61st in the world.
Spanish Sports Federation for Persons with Physical Disabilities is one of five disability sport organizations aligned with the Spanish Paralympic Committee that works towards support disability sport in Spain, and in this case specifically for people with physical disabilities.
Disabled sports in Spain started in the 1910s with the emergence of deaf sport. Blind sport began in the 1930s. Sport for people with physical disabilities began in the 1950s, and was primarily rehabilitative. The first major organization for disabled sports was created in 1968 at the direction of then president of the Spanish Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch. Spain competed at its first Paralympic Games that same year. ONCE became the official organization for organizing Spanish representation in international blind sport competitions in 1986. Spanish sport was restructured because of changes in law during the early 1990s, resulting in the creation of four new disability sport organizations and the Spanish Paralympic Committee. During the 1990s and 2000s, funding opportunities for disabled sports improved.
Carlos Soler Márquez is a Spanish wheelchair fencer who has represented Spain at five Paralympic Games. Following the 2012 Games, he retired from the sport. He is also a fencing administrator and coach, having organized a World Cup event at the fencing club where he is president.
Francesc Tur Blanch is a wheelchair tennis player from Spain. He has competed in the men's single and doubles events representing Spain at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics. His top international singles world ranking was 19th, a rank he held in August 2010.
Elena Jacinto Vélez is a Spanish wheelchair tennis player, whose best world ranking has been 24th. She competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. She trains with and is a doubles partner with fellow Spaniard, Lola Ochoa Ribes.
Miguel Rodríguez Martinez is a Spanish table tennis player who competes in a wheelchair. He has been the Spanish national champion in the men's single championship in 2011, 2012 and 2012, and has been internationally ranked. He has represented Spain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
