While Heaven Wept (often abbreviated as WHW) was an American epic doom metal band based in Dale City, Virginia. [2] The primary writer and overall engine of the band was mainman Tom Phillips. Their melodic, classically influenced style could be compared to bands such as Solitude Aeturnus and Solstice (the latter of which Tom Phillips is a former member); however, 2003's acclaimed Of Empires Forlorn saw the band branching out into a variety of metal and progressive styles. This trend continues on their 2009 album, Vast Oceans Lachrymose , and on their 2011 album, Fear of Infinity . [3]
While Heaven Wept's lyrics have dealt with sorrowful matters, namely personal loss and despondency.
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham, founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres.
Psycroptic are an Australian technical death metal band formed in Hobart, Australia in 1999. Mainstay members are Dave Haley on drums and his brother Joe Haley on guitar. Their lead vocalist, Jason Peppiatt, joined in 2004. In 2008 they signed to Nuclear Blast. As of August 2022, the band have released eight studio albums. They have undertaken Australian national tours supporting international acts, Incantation, Decapitated, Origin and Misery Index. Psycroptic have also toured Europe with Nile and with Deicide. In February 2019, the band started a co-headlining tour alongside Aversions Crown and support bands Within Destruction, Hadal Maw and Hollow World across Europe. They also headlined a 2019 tour in the United States in support of their album As the Kingdom Drowns.

Of Empires Forlorn is a studio album by the American doom metal band While Heaven Wept. The album was released in three different editions by three different labels. The Eibon Records version contains the instrumental track "From Empires to Oceans," while the Rage of Achilles Records and Rock Machine Records editions contain the track "In Aeturnum." The only other differences between the three are minor aspects of the front cover and the formatting of the liner notes/lyrics.

Vast Oceans Lachrymose is the third full-length studio album by While Heaven Wept, and their first to feature lead vocalist Rain Irving. Released in November 2009 by Italian label Cruz Del Sur, most of the material was ready in 2005 but was delayed by line up changes and label trouble. Previous record label Rage of Achilles Records went out of business and Black Lotus Records filed for bankruptcy. The album cover features the painting Christ Stilleth the Tempest by John Martin.
