Colonel Robert Carter I was a planter,merchant,and government official and administrator who served as Acting Governor of Virginia,Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses,and President of the Virginia Governor’s Council. An agent for the Northern Neck Proprietary,Carter emerged as the wealthiest Virginia colonist and received the sobriquet “King”from his contemporaries connoting his autocratic approach and political influence. Involved in the founding of the College of William and Mary,he acquired at least 300,000 acres and engaged one thousand enslaved laborers on fifty plantations.
Four Mile Tree is the name of a plantation near Jamestown,Virginia that once encompassed two thousand acres (8 km2),it was situated on the south bank of the James River opposite Jamestown,four miles (6 km) further north. On a hill near the water's edge a handsome old house overlooks the river. This plantation,was the seat of the Browne family for two hundred years. The first owner,Colonel Henry Browne,was a member of Sir William Berkeley's Council in 1643. The plantation house constructed circa 1745 remains well-preserved in its original historical state.

Jordan Point is a small unincorporated community on the south bank of the James River in the northern portion of Prince George County,Virginia,United States. It is about 20 miles from Richmond and 30 miles upstream from Jamestown on the James River. It was the location of extensive archeological research between 1987 and 1993. This research provided substantial information about human existence in the area from the prehistoric to the late colonial eras. In particular,the research extensively studied the Jordan's Journey settlement that existed between 1620 and 1640 during early years of the Virginia colony.
Captain Thomas Harwood emigrated from Britain and became a soldier,landowner and politician in the Colony of Virginia. He founded a family which like him for generations often represented the area now known as Newport News,but which in his day was known as Mulberry Island,and later Warwick River and still later Warwick County. Despite coming into conflict with royal governor Sir John Harvey in 1635,and a gap in legislative service,Harwood became the 5th speaker of the House of Burgesses.
Theodorick Bland,also known as Theodorick Bland of Westover,was a planter,merchant and politician in colonial Virginia who served as Speaker of the House of Burgesses,as well as in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly. The founder of the Bland family of Virginia,his son and grandson of the same name also served in the Virginia General Assembly before the American Revolutionary War,and later descendants sharing the same name would become a federal judge and congressman.
Henry Soane (1622–1661) was a Virginia politician,real estate investor and landowner who served in the House of Burgesses 1652–55,1658,and 1660–61,and was its Speaker in 1661.

He supported Governor William Berkeley during Bacon's Rebellion and became a prominent member of the Green Spring faction opposing later royal governors.
Colonel Lemuel Mason was an early Virginia planter,politician,justice of the peace,and militia colonel,who represented Lower Norfolk County in the House of Burgesses intermittently over three decades.
Philip Ludwell Jr. was a Virginia planter and politician who served several terms in the Virginia House of Burgesses,and became an important figure in the colony's new capital at Williamsburg as well as with the newly established College of William &Mary. Sir Richard Kemp was a planter and politician in the Colony of Virginia. Kemp served as the Colony's Secretary and on the Governor's Council from 1634 to 1649. As the council's senior member,he also served as the acting Colonial Governor of Virginia from 1644 to 1645 during travels by Governor Sir William Berkeley. Kemp had also worked closely relation with Berkeley's predecessor,Sir John Harvey.
Archibald Blair was a Scottish-born physician,merchant,planter and politician. Born in Roxburghshire,he moved to the English colony of Virginia in the 1690s. Blair served in the House of Burgesses multiple times,alternately representing the colony's capital and surrounding county. He may be confused with a distant collateral relative,Archibald Blair,who became clerk of the Virginia Governor's Council in 1776 and served for more than 25 years.
Ralph Wormeley Jr. (1651-1701) was a planter and politician who represented Middlesex County in the House of Burgesses before being elevated to the Virginia Governor's Council and serving as the colony's secretary and briefly as its acting governor. He further developed his father's Rosegill plantation,now on the National Register for Historic Places,as well as operated several plantations in adjoining Tidewater counties using enslaved labor.
Samuel Swannn was a planter,militia officer and politician in the Colony of Virginia and the Colony of North Carolina.
Thomas Swann was a planter,tavernkeeper,militia officer and politician in the Colony of Virginia who sat in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly and survived Bacon's Rebellion.
William Sherwood (1641-1688) was a British attorney who also became a planter,attorney general and politician in the Colony of Virginia. During Bacon's Rebellion,Sherwood alienated both sides,and later served as the colony's Attorney General until disbarred for a previous felony. He represented Jamestown and surrounding James City County in the House of Burgesses,but also had considerable landholdings in Surry County across the James River. A shareholder in the Royal African Company until his death,Sherwood became its official representative in the colony. He also held local offices in James City County,Jamestown and Surry County.
Humphrey Harwood (ca.1649-1700) was a soldier,landowner and politician in the Colony of Virginia.
George Jordan (1620-1679) was a British attorney who also became a planter and politician in the Colony of Virginia. He twice served as the colony's attorney general and at various times represented James City County and Surry County in the House of Burgesses,and may have served on the Virginia Governor's Council.
