Harry Flood Byrd Sr. was an American newspaper publisher,politician,and leader of the Democratic Party in Virginia for four decades as head of a political faction that became known as the Byrd Organization. Byrd served as Virginia's governor from 1926 until 1930,then represented the state as a U.S. senator from 1933 until 1965. He came to lead the conservative coalition in the Senate,and opposed President Franklin D. Roosevelt,largely blocking most liberal legislation after 1937. His son Harry Jr. succeeded him as U.S. senator,but ran as an Independent following the decline of the Byrd Organization.
Julian Sargeant "Sarge" Reynolds of Richmond,Virginia,was an American educator,businessman,and Democratic politician. He served in both the House and Senate of the Virginia General Assembly and served as 30th Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia under Governor Linwood Holton. He died of an inoperable brain tumor at age 34 while in office as Virginia's Lieutenant Governor.
Lloyd Campbell Bird was a pharmacist,businessman and Democratic politician who served as a Virginia State Senator for 28 years and helped found Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
St. John's Church is an Episcopal church located at 2401 East Broad Street in Richmond,Virginia,United States. Formed from several earlier parishes,St. John's is the oldest church in the city of Richmond,Virginia. It was built in 1741 by William Randolph's son,Colonel Richard Randolph;the Church Hill district was named for it. It was the site of two important conventions in the period leading to the American Revolutionary War,and is famous as the location where American Founding Father Patrick Henry gave his memorable speech at the Second Virginia Convention,closing with the often-quoted demand,"Give me liberty,or give me death!" The church is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Henry Horatio Wells,a Michigan lawyer and Union Army officer in the American Civil War,succeeded Francis Harrison Pierpont as the appointed provisional governor of Virginia from 1868 to 1869 during Reconstruction. A Radical Republican labeled a carpetbagger,Wells was defeated for election in 1869 by Gilbert C. Walker,who also became his appointed successor. Wells then served as U.S. Attorney for Virginia and later for the District of Columbia.

Elections in Virginia are authorized under Article I of the Virginia State Constitution,sections 5–6,and Article V which establishes elections for the state-level officers,cabinet,and legislature. Article VII section 4 establishes the election of county-level officers. Elections are regulated under state statute 24.2-102. The Virginia State Board of Elections oversees the execution of elections under state law. In a 2020 study,Virginia was ranked as the 12th easiest state for citizens to vote in.
The 1948 United States presidential election in Virginia took place on November 2,1948,throughout the 48 contiguous states. Voters chose 11 representatives,or electors to the Electoral College,who voted for president and vice president.
Frederick Thomas Gray was a Virginia attorney and Democratic Party politician. Governor J. Lindsay Almond appointed Gray to serve as Attorney General of Virginia after the resignation of Attorney General Albertis Harrison to run for Governor of Virginia during the Massive Resistance crisis in Virginia. Gray returned to private practice at Williams Mullen after Robert Young Button took office. Gray later served in the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate as he continued his law practice.
The 2017 Virginia House of Delegates election was held on Tuesday,November 7. All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were contested. The Republican Party held a 66–34 majority in the House of Delegates before the election but lost 15 seats to the Democratic Party,resulting in the Republicans holding a 50–49 advantage. After a recount,the result of the election in the 94th district was called a tie. The candidate to hold the seat was determined by random drawing on January 4,2018,which resulted in the Republicans holding a 51–49 majority.
Edward Emerson Lane was a Virginia lawyer and politician. As a Democrat,Lane represented Richmond,Virginia in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1954 until 1978,and also was his party's (unsuccessful) candidate for Attorney General of Virginia in 1977.
Women's suffrage was granted in Virginia in 1920,with the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The General Assembly,Virginia's governing legislative body,did not ratify the Nineteenth Amendment until 1952. The argument for women's suffrage in Virginia began in 1870,but it did not gain traction until 1909 with the founding of the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia. Between 1912 and 1916,Virginia's suffragists would bring the issue of women's voting rights to the floor of the General Assembly three times,petitioning for an amendment to the state constitution giving women the right to vote;they were defeated each time. During this period,the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia and its fellow Virginia suffragists fought against a strong anti-suffragist movement that tapped into conservative,post-Civil War values on the role of women,as well as racial fears. After achieving suffrage in August 1920,over 13,000 women registered within one month to vote for the first time in the 1920 United States presidential election.
The 2021 Virginia attorney general election was held on November 2,2021,to elect the next attorney general of Virginia. Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring attempted to win a third term. Herring initially planned to run for governor,but decided to run for re-election. Herring faced Republican nominee Jason Miyares in the general election. Herring conceded defeat at 5:02 PM EST the following day,November 3. Miyares became the first Cuban-American and Hispanic to be elected to statewide office in Virginia. Miyares was later sworn in on January 15,2022.
The 2011 Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney election was held on November 8,2015,to elect the Commonwealth's Attorney of Henrico County,Virginia,concurrently with elections to the Senate of Virginia and Virginia House of Delegates. Incumbent Republican Commonwealth's Attorney Wade A. Kizer announced that he would be retiring from the position,making it an open contest. Republicans Matthew Geary and Bill Janis and Democrat Shannon Taylor all ran for Attorney,with Taylor beating both in the general election.

Incumbent Democratic Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor won reelection to a second term against Republican nominee Owen Conway,a former worker for the office,by a wide margin.
Richard Fillmore Tancil (1859-1928) was a medical doctor,developer,and community leader who founded various institutions in Richmond,Virginia including Nickel Savings Bank in 1896. His office was at 601 North 30th Street.
