Willy Pedersen

Willy Pedersen (born 24 October 1952) is a Norwegian sociologist. He is professor of sociology at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo.

Pedersen received a Ph.D. in 1991 following the submission of a thesis entitled Drugs in Adolescent Worlds. He was engaged as professor of sociology at the University of Oslo in 2001.

He has worked on issues related to deviance, marginalization and culture with empirical research projects focusing on adolescence, alcohol and drugs, crime and sexuality. He has used longitudinal datasets as well as qualitative interviews and fieldwork methods in his research.

He has published a large number of articles in international peer-reviewed journals as well as a large number of books, mainly written in Norwegian. He published Street Capital: Black Cannabis Dealers in a White Welfare State (with Sveinung Sandberg) in 2009. He also writes for a number of Norwegian newspapers, including Aftenposten , Dagbladet and Morgenbladet . He has voiced support for the decriminalization of marijuana consumption in Norway. [1] Pedersen became a fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in 2018. [2]

Johan Vilhelm Aubert was an influential Norwegian sociologist. He was a professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Oslo from 1963 to 1971 and at the Department of Sociology from 1971 to 1988. He co-founded the Norwegian Institute for Social Research already in 1950, and has been labelled the "father of Norwegian sociology". In his early life he was a member of the anti-Nazi resistance group XU, and while later involved on the radical wing of the Labour Party, he edited the newspaper Orientering.

Ottar Brox was a Norwegian authority in social science and a politician for the Socialist Left Party. He was professor of sociology at the University of Tromsø from 1972 to 1984, and later associate professor while working as head of research at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in 2019.

Arne Jørgen Aasen is a Norwegian chemist and professor emeritus at the University of Oslo, School of Pharmacy. Aasen received his engineering degree in biochemistry and organic chemistry in 1964, and a doctorate in organic chemistry in August 1966 from The Norwegian Institute of Technology, Trondheim. In 1972 he defended his thesis for a doctorate at The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

May-Len Skilbrei is a Norwegian sociologist, criminologist and gender studies scholar. She is Professor of Criminology at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law at the University of Oslo Faculty of Law. She has previously been Managing Director of the Fafo Institute for Applied International Studies. She is editor-in-chief of the journal Sosiologi i dag. She has also been President of the Association for Gender Research in Norway, board member of the European Society of Criminology and board member of the University of Oslo Faculty of Law.
