A coaching tree is similar to a family tree except it shows the relationships of coaches instead of family members. There are several ways to define a relationship between two coaches. The most common way to make the distinction is if a coach worked as an assistant on a particular head coach's staff for at least a season then that coach can be counted as being a branch on the head coach's coaching tree. Coaching trees can also show philosophical influence from one head coach to an assistant.
Stephen Christopher Spagnuolo is an American football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). Nicknamed "Spags", Spagnuolo started his NFL coaching career with Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2006, and as a defensive coordinator he has coached four top-ten defenses in terms of yardage and has won four Super Bowls, one with the New York Giants and three with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is the only coordinator in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises and the only one to win four Super Bowls in that role. Some historic defenses that Spagnuolo has coached throughout his career include the 2007 New York Giants defense that defeated the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and the 2023 Kansas City Chiefs defense.
Frederick Martin von Appen is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa from 1996 to 1998, compiling a record of 5–31. He also served as an assistant on a number of college football and National Football League (NFL) coaching staffs over a 40-year period.
Steven Bernard Wilks is an American football coach in the National Football League (NFL). A defensive assistant for most of his career, he was the assistant head coach and defensive backs coach for the Carolina Panthers when they reached Super Bowl 50 and the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers when they reached Super Bowl LVIII. Wilks was also the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 and the interim head coach of the Panthers in 2022.

He was born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburb of Homestead. Attending Catawba College, Tomsula played defensive end from 1987 to 1990, after transferring from Middle Tennessee State University after the 1986 season. At Catawba College, he made 109 tackles in two seasons.

Oden played college football at Baldwin–Wallace College.
