Lieutenant General Denzil Lakshman Kobbekaduwa, RWP, RSP, VSV, USP, rcds, psc, SLAC was a Sri Lankan General. He led some of the most successful military operations in the early part of the Sri Lankan Civil War, such as Vadamarachchi Operation and Operation Balavegaya. He was mortally wounded and his commanders and staff killed when the Land Rover they were travelling in hit a land mine in the island of Kayts while making preparations for Operation Final Countdown the proposed invasion of the Jaffna Peninsula.
Patabendi Don Jinadasa Nandasiri Wijeweera known as Rohana Wijeweera, was a Sri Lankan Marxist politician, revolutionary and the founding leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna. Wijeweera led the party in two unsuccessful insurrections in Sri Lanka, in 1971 and 1987 to 1989.

Many poems from the collection are now translated into English. He has won the State Literary Award for the best original play script (1993), the best research work (2002) and the best two Sinhala novels. He is a Sinhala Radio Play writer in Sri Lanka.
Mahawaduge Dilruwan Kamalaneth Perera, or Dilruwan Perera, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who currently plays for Tests and ODIs. He plays domestically for the Colts Cricket Club. An allrounder, Perera is a right-arm offbreak bowler and right-handed batsman. He is the quickest Sri Lankan bowler to reach both 50 and 100 Test wickets and 100 Test wickets in Sri Lanka. Dilruwan is a past student of Sri Sumangala College.
Muttukumara Kavirajar (1780–1851), the Ceylon / Sri Lankan Tamil poet, was one of the earliest Hindus to protest via published native literature the conversion attempts by the various Protestant missionaries within the Jaffna peninsula in Sri Lanka. He wrote the Jnanakkummi or Kummi Song on Wisdom and Yesumataparikaram or Abolition of the Jesus Doctrine. These poem were initially published in 1850s by Arumuga Navalar
Tuan Burhanuddin Jayah, was a Sri Lankan educationalist, politician, diplomat and Muslim community leader. He started his career as a school teacher and retired after serving 27 years as the principal of Zahira College, Colombo. Under his stewardship, Zahira College became one of the leading schools in the country.

Wijemuni Vijitha Rohana de Silva was a Sri Lankan sailor and an astrologer. He is noted for his assault on Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 30 July 1987 at President's House, Colombo. It was claimed by some as an attempted assassination. He later contested a general election under the Sihala Urumaya party in 2000.
