Wisconsin is the second album by the hardcore punk band The Crucifucks. The album is noted for having a more "mellow" sound compared to The Crucifucks debut, although its lyrics maintain a stridently anarchist political viewpoint.

Alternative Tentacles is an independent record label established in 1979 by Dead Kennedys vocalist Jello Biafra and guitarist East Bay Ray in San Francisco, California with the intention to release the Dead Kennedys self-produced single "California Über Alles". After realizing the potential for an independent label, they released records for other bands as well. They would go on to release albums by artists such as Dead Kennedys, NoMeansNo, D.O.A., Alice Donut, Lard, The Dicks, Butthole Surfers, 7 Seconds, Neurosis, Wesley Willis, Half Japanese, Blowfly, Subhumans (Canada), The Crucifucks, Victims Family, Pansy Division, Zolar X, Culture Shock, World/Inferno Friendship Society, Itchy-O, ArnoCorps, The Darts, Tsunami Bomb, and many more. In the mid-1980’s Jello Biafra became the sole owner of Alternative Tentacles.

Although it never achieved commercial success, it has procured a cult following, most likely due to Doc Corbin Dart's uniquely shrill vocals and violent political lyrics. The album was later issued on the group's compilation album Our Will Be Done with "Wisconsin" and a bonus track from the band's original lineup. In a 2007 interview, Doc Dart disowned the album, calling it "an abomination".

Smart Studios was a recording studio located in Madison, Wisconsin. It was set up in 1983 by Butch Vig and Steve Marker to produce local bands. The studio produced bands such as Killdozer, The Smashing Pumpkins, L7, Tad, and Nirvana. After initial production and remix successes, the building became the focus of operations for Vig and Marker's own band, Garbage, who released their debut album in 1995.
