Wojciech Rodek

Wojciech Rodek is a Polish conductor. He is artistic director of the Lublin Philharmonic in Lublin, the ninth largest city in Poland.

Rodek was born in 1977 in Brzeg, Poland. He began studying piano at the age of 8. Rodek studied conducting from 1998 to 2003 at the Music Academy in Wroclaw, Poland. [1]

In 2005 he won the competition for the position of Assistant Conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw. Since then, he has worked with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, and the Sinfonia Varsovia. [2]

He is a regular guest conductor, conducting opera orchestras in major concert halls of Europe. [3] [4]

In December, 2011, Wojciech Rodek was appointed artistic director of the Lublin Philharmonic. "Rodek is one of two or three most talented conductors of the younger generation" said John Sek, chief executive of the Philharmonic. [5]

Wojciech Kilar was a Polish classical and film music composer. His film scores won many honors including the best score award for the music to Ziemia obiecana in 1975, followed by the Prix Louis Delluc in 1980 for the music to Le Roi et l'Oiseau / The King and the Mockingbird, and an award at the Cork International Film Festival for the music to From A Far Country (1981) about the life of Pope John Paul II.

Sir Andrzej Panufnik was a Polish composer and conductor. He became established as one of the leading Polish composers, and as a conductor he was instrumental in the re-establishment of the Warsaw Philharmonic orchestra after World War II. After his increasing frustration with the extra-musical demands made on him by the country's regime, he defected to the United Kingdom in 1954, and took up British citizenship. In 1957, he became chief conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, a post he relinquished after two years to devote all his time to composition.
