Wolfgang Ries (born 1968) is an Austrian amateur astronomer, astrophotographer and discoverer of minor planets. [2] [3]
Ries has his own private observatory at Altschwendt in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. [2] [4] The Minor Planet Center credits him with discovering numerous asteroids since 2004 and 2009. [1]
The main-belt asteroid 266887 Wolfgangries was named after him. [3] Naming citation was published on 22 July 2013 ( M.P.C. 84383). [5]

2598 Merlin, provisional designation 1980 RY, is a carbonaceous Dorian asteroid from the central regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 16 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 7 September 1980, by American astronomer Edward Bowell at Lowell's Anderson Mesa Station in Flagstaff, Arizona, United States. The asteroid was named after the legendary wizard Merlin in Arthurian legend.

7655 Adamries, provisional designation 1991 YM1, is a Nysa asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 4 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 28 December 1991, by German astronomer Freimut Börngen at Karl Schwarzschild Observatory in Tautenburg, eastern Germany. It was named after mathematician Adam Ries.
5481 Kiuchi, provisional designation 1990 CH, is a bright binary Vestian asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 4 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 15 February 1990, by Japanese astronomers Kin Endate and Kazuro Watanabe at Kitami Observatory in Hokkaidō, Japan, and named after their colleague Tsuruhiko Kiuchi. The V-type asteroid has a rotation period of 3.6 hours.
1925 Franklin-Adams is a stony background asteroid from the central regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 8.9 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 9 September 1934, by Dutch astronomer Hendrik van Gent at the Leiden Southern Station, annex to the Johannesburg Observatory in South Africa. The bright asteroid has a short rotation period of less than 3 hours. It was named after British amateur astronomer John Franklin Adams (1843–1912).
